The bent hood can be straighted out by a camera repair man. The repair may not be beautiful, but the camera will be funcitional.

hmm... wel...

Well, yes, it looks repairable. But Jürgen is one of these people striving for the best of the best so doing it properly in his eyes is a bit more involved than "hammering out the dent". I can only agree with his view by the way.

Testing!

Hello Jürgen,

There is a strong rumour that GLS is testing their new goods handling system by shipping old Hasselblad SWA cameras.
Chances are you were one of the guinea pigs.

Deutsche Post will do the same but they decided to use 1000F cameras in stead.
I was asked to put the camera in an old shoe box with yesterdays newspaper around it to fill the box.
Please direct any complaints about this test method to the managing director of Deutsche Post.

For some funny reason they asked me to insure the camera for twice the recorded value......

Gr,
Paul

Wilko,

I did not say hammer it out. :z04_hinterherjagen: This has to be done carefully and slowly by a repair person who knows how to repair this damage.

Failing that, send it to me and I will provide a retirement home for it where it will be kept in the company of other retired cameras. :z04_yes:

"Either you do or you don't, there is no try" (quote from Yoda, the Jedi master). Should read "Either you do or you don't, no try there is."

I know how it is done, not with a hammer. But you get my drift: if you plan, like Jurgen, to make it your pride and joy it just does not feel right to have to repair it. It will never be as good as it was before the repair.

I once worked for DPD, another parcel service. I packed the cars at night in a logistics centre. The stupidity of the drivers was beyond anything that I had experienced before. I quit the job after it had happened for the second time that a driver drove away from the packing platform while I was still in the rear of the truck stacking parcels with the consequence that I fell out of it .

This is no comfort for Jürgen but instead I will promise to not make jokes about Hasselblad 1000 FK cameras at the moment. That will come after Christmas ;).

Ulrik

Guilty person found after 20-25 odd years.

Ulrik,

Now I finally found the person at DPD that smashed my first SW camera by throwing a reconditioned gearbox on top of the shoe box my camera was packed in.

You can rest assured this act will have serious concequences!!

Paul

Paul,
it was a Landrover gearbox and nobody was ever able to prove that it really was a Hasselblad SW what we found in the shoebox.

Ulrik

Well done!

Ulrik,

It sounds like a job well done.
That reminds me I have to send you a couple of bodies next week.
I am out of shoe boxes now. I hope the sale is still on in the local shoe shop otherwise the price for packing will have to be adjusted....

Wilko,

Classic or not, nothing withstands the sheer mass of a Landrover gearbox.

We are funning while Jürgen still mourns for his SWA camera.
I was about to send his 1000F(K) camera and was thinking of using an oversize box just to tease Jürgen a little.
Lots of old newspapers to be removed before finally the box with the camera appears. I was not sure it would be appropriate considering the recent decease of a very nice SWA camera.

Just wait and see!

Paul

For all , who want to have some fun , here is the "SWA shoebox" .

On the contrary Jürgen.
This shoebox looks much stronger than the one I used to send your 1000F(K) camera in......

Paul

ps:
I like the "Sicherheit" labels very much.
Sicherheit means safety for those who do not speak German.
The seller must have shoved the camera with force into that little box. It looks too small.

I knew , something like that would come up . My Doctor said , I should not have any stress . Therefore , your answer is a big help .:z04_2171:

Sicherheit as in "please check that nobody has opened the box to nick its contents before signing the receipt". How touching the shipper was concerned about it getting stolen..

Ugh..

Jurgen's news was such a shame, but it will get sorted out despite likely delays due to Christmas / New Year.

Clearly the vendor is an idiot - misstated the camera and packed the camera as if it were a box of nails!

Jurgen is wise since he takes this problem so calmly - we often get great deals and then get let down - if on average the outcomes are positive then we are doing well.

But it raises a VIP issue we should all keep in mind - when we buy and the gear is being posted - demand that the vendor package according to your instructions like a box 2 x what seems to be needed.... blah, blah. Leaving it up to vendors is obviously risky.

Good luck Jurgen!!

Human stupidity

Jürgens good looking, that is before the damage caused in transit, SWA camera was shipped by a guy who owns a camera store.
That makes it all the more strange that this piece of Hasselblad history was packed like a pack of nails like Simon says.

To be absolutely save I bought a new pair of shoes and paid special attention to get shoes with a strong card board box.
Jürgen will like the shoebox and the contents even better I hope.
