Early Alert: New CFV-II

Steve:

My post may seem that I am a passionate advocate of square, but I'm not. I love the intimicy of square for authoral work, but for commrcial it's far from ideal. AD's while viewing chromes always seemed to object that the format was kind of "short". Now with digital this doesn't apply anymore because you can always make a final cropping before showing thm for reviewing.

When I propose a square sensor for the V cameras it's because I'm thinking of the mechanical limitations I belive exist for attaching a digital back with a rectangular sensor to rotate for hor-vert to the V camera. Besides, it would be difficult to design it to flush-fit in both directions.
My second proposal it's been a 36X48mm (P25-A22) sensor with a mechanism to make it rotate inside the carcass of the back. I think this was implemented once in the beginning of MF digital backs.

More than the finals during the next Olympic games in China, I would love to see a full unbiased professionally conducted comparison between the new Hasselblad CFVII and a Canon 1DsIII.
I know most people here are already thinking the CFV2 will win. (cropped to rectangular). Sorry, but I wouldn't be so sure.

Certainly I'd love to be proven wrong!
I want first row tickets!

Eduardo

In informal surveys, preference for sensor ratio aspect typically runs about 2 to 1 in favor of rectangle instead of square. But those in favor of square seem more passionate.

Unfortunately, businesses must surive by making money and I believe there is not enough money to be made from the passionate advocators of the square format. Perhaps this will change - especially with the Hy6 and AFi systems now available.

Eduardo,

The first version of the CFV back is already a clear winner compared to the Canon 1DsIII.
That makes the CFVII at least a winner on the same grounds.
The new filter may even improve the distance.
Better get your tickets for the Olympics. The Canon - Hasselblad race is over.

Paul

If you look at the picture of old and new CFV it's hard to see witch one is the new.

Anyway it's good to see that the V is not completely dead for Hasselblad.

This back should (?) be better than the 22Mpix canon; at the same time when I see the actual prize of the 12 Mpix Canon 450D I wonder how to justify the difference when I rarely print bigger than 40x40cm. And I cann use film back on my V for specific works.

I got my M8 one year ago now, and to get better result I use my V with films.

Contradictions in my post but yes 10'000$ is a lot for depressiable gear.

What about the new CWD-II specifications ?

I can't read anything on hasselblad.se ?

Paul,
Just out of curiosity, where did you see the comparison between the CFV and the Canon 1DsIII?

33 days after "early alert" nothing is published by hasselblad.com.

One write that "live view" and 800 asa is in the pipe with phocus. But phocus is not inside the CFV back ?

By the way: how about using CFV back with Windows version instead of Mac ?

Nothing on the CFV-II?

It's on their website.

Current version of Phocus has Live View.

Next version of Phocus will have the ISO boost of one stop.

Windows version due 3rd quarter 2008.

It is , like it has always been since HASSELBLAD exists , the american market is the key market and all HASSELBLAD products are put on the market in the U.S. long before they are seen here .

Yep, I swapped my CFV-II back order today ... so on Friday I take delivery of the new 503CWD and 40/4 (which I believe is the IF version!)

This promotion package was only $3,000 more than the back alone.

Anyone looking for a mint 40/4CFE or a late model mint 503CW, with the ISO 3200 TTL dial, just e-mail me at fotografz@comcast.net.

Interesting that HUSA's flash ad in the 503CDWii promotion shows the 503CW with an 80 _chrome C_ lens, then swaps it for the 40.

Amazing, the 40mm is the IF version. That lens alone lists for $5,873. at B&H.

I regreted selling my old CFV almost the minute it left the studio. So, I'm more stoked up about this camera than I was when getting the H3D-II/39 ... LOL.

Funny, a 500 series camera has been a constant part of my photographic life now for over 30 years ... and it still solicits the same thrill everytime I pick one up and bring it to my eye.

Hats off to Victor Hasselblad.

Far better for communication !

With the CFV-I advertising it talk to old nostalgics who are looking for his first teddy bear in a flea market.

Now with the CWD-II fitted with the 40IF it look like a new heavy up to date technological waepon for adults in the the future top pictures races aera.

I just saw an used 503cwd kit for sale in a shop in Geneva. The lens and the book were missing, the viewfinder was swaped with the old one (pre 1980) .
An image bank was included
There was empty battery included without loader.
A shame kit in fact and impossibe to test. And impossible to compare with a new one.
All this for 8300$
Perhaps it's early to see interesting deal for "old" CFV !

Well, the CFV-II & 40/4 CFE IF Promo Bundle arrived on Friday. Quite exciting!

The old War Horse V system just keeps on goin'.

The 40/4 IF is ... well ... BIG! Bigger than my 40/4CFE. Sharp. Before selling the 40/4 CFE, I hope to test them against each other in some real world applications.

Right away I pressed the new CFV-II into service. My H3D-II/39 is off having the IR filter replaced in Sweden ... my bad, I scratched it : -( , and the new Promo H3D-II/31 doesn't arrive until today ... but I had a hot job due yesterday. So the 503CW/CFV-II was the ONLY choice. It performed like the champ that it is. The Art Director loved the shots.

The new 503CWD Bundle finally comes with a battery, charger and car connection. The focusing screen is the etched type showing the capture area of the CFV-II. It doesn't come with the L shaped battery holder for use with the 555ELD and SWC ... I believe those are available separately for about $100. The bundle product photo on the Hasselblad site is incorrect ... the 503CWD is not the one shown with the chrome winder and 503CWD badging ... it's a regular 503CW.

LCD is obviously larger and clearer ... but I still tend to rely on the Histogram, and I will be watching for circumstances where the new reflection dampening IR filter may help out with back lighting and direct shots with a hot source of light.

I have a killer deal on one of my other 503CW bodies which is the latest version with the ISO 3200 TTL flash dial ... AND my mint 40/4CFE.

Mint 503CW body, WL finder, A12 or A24 film back: $1,350.

Mint Zeiss 40/4 CFE in box, caps: $2,250.

Whole Kit: $3,200.

Pay Pal accepted if buyer pays 1/2 the fee. Shipping and insurance additional. Free ground shipping lower 48 states.

There is no special offer here in Germany .
One of the biggest HASSELBLAD dealers does not even mention , that there is a new CFV-II back , but it is mentioned as CFV back , new version . That is all .

I shot a food job with the new CFV-II ... It was so much delicious fun that even the subjects got excited : -)

Fantastic, Marc!!!!

Jurgen, I bet the German dealer make no mention of it because they have V1 stock still to move!!

Marc, now with the various Hasselblad systems you use, why did you do the product job with the CFV-II? Of course the image quality is brilliant, but it would be interesting to know about your choice.

Since say a 40mm lens has a relatively very close focus distance and the cropped frame gives a much narrower angle-of-view, does this make the CFV-II kit an even better choice for such product shots?

PS - looks like that red thing has been on Viagra!!
