Hasselblad CFV Digital Back CONTINUED

I have followed Marcs good advice as well now .

My ARTIXSCAN 1800f (1800 ppi for all formats) will be replaced by an ARTIXSCAN F1 (A1) . This scanner will serve me very well , as I can scan all formats I use (4,5x6 , 6x6 , 6x9 , 6x12 , 4x5") at a resolution of 4800ppi . Thats at least what the specs say .

The order is placed and there is a delivery time of 2 - 3 weeks now .
The cost for the version with SILVER FAST Ai STUDIO scan software are 1005,00€ inclusive transport .

I will post my first results .

Regards Jürgen

Hi Jurgen,
I have been told that the F1 is not available in the UK yet and the date when it will be is unknown due to a "production delay". The price also seems to be a bit higher than that here.

I look forward to hearing how you get on with it.
Best wishes,
John

The MICROTEK web pages are not very helpful at all .
There are different sale packages . The lowest package is just the scanner , no SILVER FAST software .
The second is with SILVERFAST Ai, then with SILVERFAST Ai STUDIO and then SILVERFAST Ai STUDIO HDR etc. What a confusion for the customer . I bet , it's made intentionally , and they all differ in price . I decided to take the studio software , because the Ai I have would need an update (not free) anyway .
The delivery date will be around end of October .

So prices will be different in UK and Germany .
Sometimes I buy gear at RobertWhite , because of his good and fast service , sometimes even lower prices than here and the lower V.A.T. Shipping is no problem .

I will update with results .

Regards Jürgen

G'Day:

Meanwhile, down at the farm, the analog, film-only, no battery, 'plain vanilla' 500 series and a Zeiss lens still makes images which please me. :)

Recipe: Take One Wet Sunday - add kitchen bench, one reading l& and foil reflector, 50FLE at closest, Delta 100 Pro, Ilford DD-X.

Organic photography (it was organically grown, too). Scanned V750M Silverfast. (Sorry, not spotted yet)

Cheers, Colin

Jürgen,
all the best with your Microtek-Scanner. As I do not need large format I ended up with a refurbished Nikon 8000 a few days ago. Before I start to show results I will have to get all the associated things right. Calibrate the monitor, calibrate the scanner, learn Silverfast and Nikon Scan and Photoshop, learn colour space and depth and all the other witchcraft. That may take some time as I am not at home very often at this time of the year.

Ulrik
(Sticking to film and having bought a decent scanner, thanks to Marc for his thoughts on that topic and thanks to Jürgen for sharing his experience with tilt-sensors)

I think , MICROTEK took over the AGFA DUO SCAN production many years ago .
My first scanner was an AGFA DUO SCAN 1000 , which was just good enough for 4x5" scans .
It had an SCSI interface . The second scanner was the ARTIXSCAN 1800f which still works , but I bought it for 4x5" scans and the resolution is too low for good MF scans .
I believe that MICRTEK is a very experienced company and I am not afraid of a desaster with the F1 .
Learning the SILVERFAST Ai software is as learning FLEXCOLOR from HASSELBLAD . Once you have the basics and your first good results , it encourages you to go on . So don't worry .

Tsss Tsss . Peter and the young girl dancers . Nice shots . Take care , they might get you drunk and "steel" your CFV BACK .

G'Day Jurgen, Mate!

Remember Homer's story about Ulysses, especially the Sirens. :)

"""Circe directed Ulysses to stop the ears of his seamen with wax, so that they should not hear the CFV advertising; to have himself bound to the mast, and to enjoin his people, whatever he might say or do, by no means to release him till they should have passed the Sirens' retailer's island. Ulysses obeyed these directions. As they approached the retailer's island, the sea was calm, and over the waters came CFV advertising and marketing so ravishing and attractive that Ulysses struggled to get loose and, by cries and signs to his people, begged to be released; but they, obedient to his previous orders, sprang forward and bound him still faster. They held on their course, and the sales pitch grew fainter till it ceased to be heard, when with joy Ulysses gave his companions the signal to unseal their ears; and they relieved him from his digital desires.""" (author unknown)

I think that's how it went ...

Welcome back, Sailor!

Cheers, Colin

(I'm sure the Sirens will get us all, eventually.

Colin,

Like your onion.
Not sure i like its plain vanilla flavour though.
I always felt the Zeiss/Hasselblad combination being so sharp they make my eyes water. Just like the onions we have here, up-above.

Colin

Great comment . Very amusing . Thank you very much .
z04_kaputtlachen.gif

I still have a little studio project in my mind . Your onion image feeds my ideas very much again . I wanted to create a calender , with all available vegetables , very much like your onion . Thanks for bringing me back to that idea . I will use film , of course .

Regards Jürgen .

"I will use film , of course"

What is happening Jürgen are you turning into a coward?

If the CFV engineering were to be used in a hospital during operations I think I would try to find a hospital that still uses old fashioned engineering to perform the op.

I know there is a lot of gold to be found in the digital domain.
Nevertheless I understand people who settle for silver that is a
save and trusted method.

Nothing serious has happened .
But I have discovered , I should not rely on my digital back too much , and also not forget good old film .
All images for my junkyard project were taken on film (E100VS) and were high end scanned with stunning quality results . Is that not reason enough , not to forget film ? ? ?

Regards Jürgen

Peter,
What brilliant pictures and what an endorsement for the CVF. They could make me forsake film.
John

G'day:

@ Jurgen. Will you match Vegetable to Month in your Calendar. Lettuce for Salad Days. Turnip for February ... :)

@ Q.G. Thanks. Poor organic onion became organic stew.

@ John. Get the wax for your ears. You've hearing the Sirens.

@ Paul. Maybe the Analog v. Digital is like the 'life partner v. the lover' considerations? Each has good and bad features.

"Maybe the Analog v. Digital is like the 'life partner v. the lover' considerations? Each has good and bad features."

Does this mean I shouldn't tell my Hasselblad that I also have a Nikon D200?

Manu

Manu:

You tell your Nikon you have a Hasselblad, and you tell your Hasselblad that your friend, the Contax, has got a Nikon.

Then go cut your wrists.

Cheers,

Colin

Colin:

As long as my Holga doesn't know anything about the others, I should be fine.

All the best,

Manu

Colin:

Great Shot, one that others should know by just looking at it, that film has got it...

It is very pleasing to see for one, no numbers, no files, file or re-file, nor 3 exposures to make one! No headache!

How very refreshing! Thanks for the Onion!

Very amusing guys.

Jurgen, please make sure to share your experience with us, once you get the Microtek F/M1.
This scanner is one of the most expected in many years.
