Hasselblad CFV Digital Back CONTINUED

I consulted the only Australian language guide available here in Bristol, called 'Let's Talk Strine', but even that let me down after No.1!

I'm sure you know the one about the Pom who flies to Australia, gets to Immigration and is asked if he has any criminal convictions. 'I'm afraid not,' he replies, 'I didn't know you still needed one.'

No offence, etc.

G'Day Bojan:

Fair suck of the sausage, mate. Stone the bloody crows, yer name doesn't look like a pommie moniker. Now I'm more confused than a dog that's runnin' towards two trees in the desert.

Good one, anyway. :)

Jeez, offence? No way, china. We grew up knowing that Poms got an automatic visa. :)

Cheers,

Colin

You are correct!

What she described as a woman head with the body of a bird is a Harpy. Harpies are a foul mouthed, foul smelling fowl that had a screeching ear piercing voice, like that of an angry screaming woman. Harpies have a supernatural capacity for contamination via excreta. Reference: see the discussion in the Aeneid.

I know that a "slab" is a "two-four" in Canadian and means a case of 24 beers.

Hi Steve,

I have to say that I am very glad that in 2007, although no doubt we have many awful creaures, we don't have any Harpies! - at least none that I have seen about the place recently.

I have just looked them up and found a picture, albeit dated 1642 which was a bit after their time. Unfortunately I could not paste it here.

Our daughter has married an Australian and they live in Sydney. We seem to be able to communicate pretty well. His mother did send us a Strine dictionary and when we were over there in 1997, she tested me. I passed.

I heard on the radio recently that POM comes from Prisoner of Millbank. Apparently people awaiting deportation were kept at Millbank prison and the standard issue jacket had POM printed on it. When they arrived in Australia, they were greeted with "Oh here's another POM".

Back from the roadshow . Great .

But , friends , if I read the last postings , I think I have landed on mars .

I love it but do not understand it , but that is no reason to say something bad about me . I will get you .

And if I get that fellow , who did not put the wax properly into my ears , I promise you , he will have to suffer in paying the new gear . :)
Fact is , the wax fell out of my right ear , the one , where still can hear very good , and I heard wonderful digital songs , songs from LEAF and APTUS , and I can't think of anything else now . I got a trade-in offer of 9000€ for my CFV BACK .
Report will follow .

G'Day:

@John. POM. Sounds feasible. Another popular story is that it referenced the delicate, rather pale complexion/white skin with flushed red cheeks which were obvious in new arrivals in 'the colonies', and were said to be like the Pomegranite. A pome. A pom. Who knows.

@ Jurgen. We are waiting.

Cheers,

Colin

I like the pale fruit (pomegranite)idea and picture. I will pass them on to my daughter. Mind you, after many weeks at sea in the hold of a sailing ship, I can imagine that the new arrivals were white unless they had been allowed on deck at times.

Juergen,

'I am Juergen, son of Laertes, known to the world for every kind of craft - my fame has reached the skies'
Homer, c. 7th century BC

In your Odyssey, you heard the Sirens' call when you succumbed to the CFV. Your crew (or plebs, as Col would call them) did not tie you to the mast well enough.

It is Circe who turned your CFV into a swine. You need to find Hermes on the road to Gothenberg for some magic herbs to subdue her and undo her spell (or else some herbs to make you feel better - although that might need a detour via Amsterdam).

But is doesn't end there. You must be careful in negotiating Scylla (Phase) and Charybdis (Leaf) - one is a whirlpool to suck you down, the other will eat you unless you find a path through. That is your next task.

Then you must stop your crew killing sacred livestock, or you will be shipwrecked, then tempted by immortality and kept as the lover of Calypso for seven years (at least if you take the offer of immortality, you will be able to wait the whole time it will take for a cheap MF digital back).

It seems there are baleful and malevolent women everywhere.

But remember:

'And at last your own death will steal upon you...
a peaceful, gentle death, far from the sea it comes
to take you down, borne with the years in ripe old age
with all your people in blessed peace around you.'

G'Day Nick:

Listen mate, fair crack of the whip. I reckon you've gone off topic.

Cheers,

Colin

PS. C'mon Jurgen, let's have the news on the Hy6/Sinar/Leaf. Did you touch it? And did you say E9000 for the trade of your CFV back? 9000?

Gentlemen:

I was about to nap when I read Simon's test(which by the way I wish we had one just like it here)all the way to Nick's reply with Homer!

I feel as though I attended a class.

I don't know if I'll sleep or toss and turn trying to figure all of this out. I am reasonable sure Jurgen will get another back!

Thanks:

Gilbert

You could be right, Colin, although being off topic on an off topic should by rights mean being back on topic. Homeric logic applies...just a matter of choosing your Homer.

Nice to have a list Mum in a battered Akubra, though

. I had forgotten about straining the potatoes, so thanks for that reminder.

Would it have helped if I had remembered to add that Calypso was Sinar? At least you get 7 years with her.

Juergen's digital back odyssey is sort of on topic and there is a point in there about being seduced, then being seduced again!

Colin , mate

This week I had a lot of travelling and I will have to travel today as well .
I will report by tomorrow .

Yes I could do quite some test shots with the LEAF AFi + APTUS 75 + SCHNEIDER 2,8/80mm AFD lens .

And yes it is also true , that I was offered a trade-in , 9000€ for my CFV , if I just buy a LEAF BACK , APTUS 22 or higher .
So , who was the one , who did not tie me to the mast strong enough and who did not put the wax into my ears properly ? ? ?

Regards Jürgen

Hi all!

I hope it is ok that i chime in to this thread. I took delivery of my own 503CWD (anniversary) kit last saturday and would like to share my first thoughts of this kit.

I did (and still do) use a Nikon D2X for when there is action to cover, a Nikon F4S and till now a Bronica ETRS with film and Polaroids. The Bronica went to sale lately.

And my name is Andy - i am addicted to film though having digital tools at hand.
happy.gif

Positives:

- well build, body and dback - feels like a real tool, everything moves very sleek
- brings back the way i like to work (manual, hand meter,....) but with the possibilities of digital capture
- good quality of the files as i can judge so far - i do like the Carl Zeiss glas already

Negatives:

- it is called kit - they have thrown even a long fire wire cable and a 2 gig CF card into the package, everything you need to get going. But - oh - ups - no battery and charger included?! Very cool Mr. Hasselblad - thanks a lot for that.
- the 80 Planar is a bit too long for my usual shooting ( i knew that - just to be complete here)
- my CFV back can't remember time and date longer then a 100 year old human being - that does annoy me a bit since it makes it hard to sort the files in case you forgot to set before shooting. Yes - i had it running a few hours to give the internal battery a chance to charge properly. Even my el chipo p&s canon ixus is able to do that..... What was the cure for that? Do i have to send it in?
- this beast makes addicted.....

Here are a few ex&les of what i was able to pull out of my Hassi for the start - i expect a bit of time to get accustomed to the files.... They might to heavy processed for some - but hey, it was just for fun and pleasure!
