Pre 500 series cameras like the 1600F, 1000F the SWA and the SW had a little pin at the RH top corner that was activated as the film was transported and the lens cocked. The pin came out of the back of the camera body.
It activated some parts in the film back. Some people say the film counter I have not been able to find that there is a link with the counter though.
For the sake of compatibility later film backs up till 1985! still have a little hole to allow use with over 25 year older cameras.
SWC cameras start in 1959 and do not have the protruding pin.
The same goes for 500 C cameras.
They were the first cameras not to have the pin.
With a few exceptions most parts of the Hasselblad system are forwards and backwards compatible.
