Hasselblad 503CW rumors

http://www.kodak.com/US/en/dpq/site/SENSORS/name/ISSAboutISS_root

"Today, key Kodak technology is enabling a new generation of products that provide advanced levels of performance, resolution, and image quality. A two-phase, Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) design for full frame image sensors offers outstanding sensitivity and quantum efficiency. Our interline and linear products are recognized as high-performance leaders throughout the industry. And KODAK PIXELUX technology – based on a 4-transistor, pinned photodiode, shared pixel architecture – redefines the performance and functionality available from CMOS image sensors, making them ideal for use in mass-market consumer imaging applications."

Perhaps this new technology will enable a larger full frame back at a reasonable cost! Wishful thinking of course.

Hello Dear Gentlement, I have been reading this forum for the last year and I just have to say that I love Marc for his writing eloquence, his experience, and for being the person who made me by the CFV because of his accurate evaluation of it. I also love Jurgen for his constructiveness and apparent kindness of nature. And of course Simon. Last but not least, everyone else.

G'Day All:

Phew! I'm glad this "HB sibling" family squabble has died down. Gets a bit too much like a gaggle of old fish wives on this forum at times.

Nothing is gained from all this clawing, hissing and spitting - for all I know, in this wonderful Internet world we inhabit, half of the siblings might be the same person using different persona, and exhibiting severe episodes of multiple personality disorder syndrome.

Could I suggest a new topic - Pissing Matches - and anyone who wants to rant, rave, get personal, get even, get mad, display temper tantrums etc just uses that topic. If we feel inclined, we can then just look in on the topic from time to time to see who is a raving loony. And I won't get 40 email notices because someone is having a bad hair day.

I'm with Saad! There are some eloquent words written at this place, by several experienced people, amateur and professional, and those thoughts are often very helpful shortcuts for the uneducated ones like me, who desire to make good images. Long may it continue.

About the 4848 v 5656. It's just a bald assed guess by me that a 5656 will be longer in coming, and too expensive for the non-pro. I have the means but not the desire for the CFV as it stands now, tilt sensor and all. Yes, F&H and HB might be playing out a strategic sensor size game. Suits me. I've had two Rollei's for 30 years, so I have a foot in both loyalty c&s. And I'm addicted to film, so it's not as if I'm losing sleep over any of this.

Thank you to the 'givers' here for the generosity you show in sharing experiences and knowledge. That's what this place is all about.

Cheers,

Colin

PS. Would 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 be considered odd (neither 2 or 3) or even (square). Please reply in 'Pissing Matches'.

Hi Gilbert,

Interestingly enough I just saw this one at Kodak, for those who follow Marc's advice on "shoot more film".

http://www.kodak.com/global/en/professional/products/films/discontinuedNotice.jhtml?id=0.2.26.14.25&lc=en

So Ektachrome lovers who like this particular variant better fill the freezer while they still can.

BTW: Wouldn't it be *extremely* interesting to see how much of the digiback's cost price is the actual sensor chip? I have this nagging feeling telling me that the sensor cost is substantial but does not cover the full story. NRE for custom image processing chips and the actual design of the back are probably higher than the sensor.

And.. most likely the margin between cost & sales price is huge. Can't prove it unfortunately :-( And if I could, what would we gain?

cheers, Wilko

Fortunately the top line of the KODAK preannouncement reads :

KODAK is preannouncing the discontinuance of
<font color="ff0000">several smaller running families of Professional film - EPR , EPN and High Speed Infrared (HIE) . . .

Therefore I think , there is no need to panic .

I have bought 20 rolls of KODAK E100VS , which I found is a fantastic film .

Jurgen

Hi Juergen,

Indeed no need to panic, but potentially useful to know well in advance.

HIE is one of the more interesting films, I tried it a couple of times. It is 135 only but still..

I would like to add my comments to those of Pauls.

I have not written much in this forum but have read the postings very closely and have appreciated the wisdom of many contributors. I will be very disappointed if there is an exodus of these people because of the personal conflict evident here.

I think that when disembodied words appear it is very easy to forget that real people have authored them and real people reading them. Furious comments that one would never make in a social situation pour out impulsively for all to see. You may never see your adversary and all that is left for reasonable people is to disengage and move on.

Can I suggest that personal comments be left to emails between those concerned rather than making them public? Otherwise, I agree with Paul that those responsible should be blocked. The latter would be a disappointing outcome and loss of valuable insights.

I have attached a photo of my littlest one, Rivki taken with 503CW and digital back.

> Actually I don't see what the problem is. "Personally" directed > emails posted here (or on any forum) I simply ignore/delete with a > keystroke and move on. Whatever they get into is no skin off my back.

Rivki

You little charmy and innocent child , please play us the song of peace , mutual respect and understanding . This would help us all to stay a great community .

Wilco:

Thank you!

I did observe that one sensor amounted to about 1/3 of the price of the back. This company sells Kodak sensors.

Sorry for the late response!

Jurgen:

I have enjoyed E100VS since they introduced it. For me it was my choice for replacing Kodachrome 25.(RIP) when it was discontinued , but I must admit the additional speed has helped me and I like the vivid color, especially for landscapes.

The Kadachrom was in 64 iso for 120. I'have 3 more film in my congelator with prepaid process. Now impossible to precess !

Yesterday I was surprised about the fact that the CFV is now almost 2 years old and the resale prize is about the same. It should have been a good point to buy it at the begining and sold on second hand now.

I imagine that for the next one I will try to buy the first days (as I did for my Leica M8)
In fact the life for digital back is bigger than expected and It's realistic to imagine to keep large money from the end of films expences.

If the CFV II has battery inside of the back it will be allready a plus.

Hi Dirk,

I did write to you under another heading but probably the wrong one!

I am having trouble uploading pictures of a reasonable size.
I have one which I have specially resized to 800x785 129.8 Kb but when I try to upload it, a message appears that it is too large.

I'm probably doing something wrong but hoping you can help.

Thanks and best wishes,

John

John

If you downsize your image to a smaller pixelsize (700x???) or downsize to 110 to 115 KB it
will work . The limit is 120KB , as far as I can remember .

Jurgen

Hi Jürgen,

Thanks for that.

I thought I read that the maximum size is 130kb or 800x800 pixels. I did manage to upload a picture at a smaller size but it was terrible. I'll try again wiht a smaller size though and see what happens.

best,
John

John

I am sorry , it is in fact 800x800 or 130KB . My fault .
I never managed to get a 130KB image inserted , therefore I always did a downsizing to about 117KB to 125KB . Sometimes the 125KB work fine , in other cases the image is not inserted . So you will have to try out .
I hope this helps .

Jürgen
