250mm telephoto lens

I am sorry even if I knew the name of this shop I would not mention it.
I do know it is in the Hamburg area.............

This was my lucky day. Some excellent used glass changed hands today.
That has not happened in a long time.
As soon as I find a clean rear element for your 80/2.8 I will drop you a line.
The one I found today is reserved for a nice 1966 silver lens.
The rear element on that one has coating problems.
To bring older lenses back into good usable condition is fun.
It takes some effort to locate the parts but it is well rewarded.
Pictures of this lens in a little while.

Regarding that horrible dealer, there is a section on Photo.net's web site where members add dealers to the database and confidentially addd information about that dealer's credibility / experience / integrityty / reliability.

It is an excellent resource - I know because before sending money to one dealer myself, I looked the company up on the Photo.net database only to find a long littany of bad customer experiences!

Maybe you could add the info there so that others are less likely to suffer the same experience Jurgen had.

I know where to get the name of that dealer of course.
I believe only first hand experiences should be reported.
Knowing the unfortunate buyer of this SWA he is more enclined to forget about this sad misery and move on.
He has all his energy on finding a good SWA.

Anybody who reads this and knows of a decent SWA camera please contact me.
A worthy replacement is the only way to compensate for this sad event.

Lets keep that man out of our forum . He is not worth being mentioned in any way any more .
I got my money back and survived the situation .
I will look forward and I know , I have friends keeping their eyes open for a good SWA for me .

Paul I understand and agree about "first hand" experiences - rumours should not be published anywhere.

Jurgen, I didn't want the offending seller published here - this forum just doesn't have that breadth of facility; but I was mindful that Photo.net has an excellent area for dealer experiences to be posted, which from not just my experience I know has saved people much anguish. It doesn't defame sellers but records peole's good and bad experiences.

Also I was not aware that you had been fully compensated by the seller. I am delighted to hear that! :)

In fact that probably makes him a GODD seller - on one hand he was stupid but on the other hand he made good and accepted his responsibility.

Yes Simon , its all over . But sometime we can say ar...oles are cheap to day , cheaper than yesterday .
This is my last comment on this sad story .

I see you keep a Hassy spirit level on the accessory rail of your 501CM too!
 
Hi, Simon. I used to have a Hassy quick-coupler with the level also, but I was like a man with 2 watches that didn't agree - I didn't know which one was right. In the end, I decided only to use the body-mount level because there's nothing else in the mounting path to throw things off or to mis-interpret. Works well for me.

I totally agree Mike.

Despite the fact my tripod has a spirit level and my quick release has one, I ONLY rely upon the camera mounted spirit level - the device at the highest point is the only one to rely upon!

That is what I love about my Linhof 4x5 - the built in spirit level on the top!

I do use the tripod device as a very quick aid to setting it up reasonably level in the first place.

Hello SImon

I have a precision adjustable spirit level tool in the length of 20cm and set my big marble table surface to be exactly levelled .

Now comes the surprising thing .
Whatever camera with a built in spirit level or an add on level or a tripod QR coupler I put on that table , they all showed more or less differences , but none showed what I expected .
So whenever we believe our camera is levelled , it probably is not .
But most likely precise enough for what we want to shoot .

I have a oportunity to buy a 140-280 CF lens. I wonder if the zoom lens is as good as the 250mm...or perhaps better.
I found MTF curves for the CF 250mm witch are good but not as good as the 180mm I have. What about the quality of the old zoom lens (?)

MTF curves for the big zoom are rare.
Whether Schneider used them like Zeiss did, no idea.
This is a great lens that will not be less good than the 250 CF except maybe with some higher distortion.

Thanks for posting this photo Mike. I just picked up a mint 250 CFI today (including the leather case, box and original registration card) while on a visit to Minneapolis. I wasn't actively looking for one, but couldn't pass this one up. Still need a 35, 60 and 350mm to round out my collection I guess. :)

Congrats on your find, Gary. These are getting to be hard to find and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to find a new one. By serial number, mine was built in the late 1990s and Hasselblad accepted the warranty card without a fuss.

The other 250 Sonnars

Along with some other collectibles here are the other 250 Sonnars.
Far left early CZ lenses for 1600F, the 250/4 and the 250/5.6
Right three C lenses and a CF.
The camera on the left is an early 1600F with Kodak Ektar lens in working condition.

What's the secret to finding out when a lens was made with reference to the serial number? Is there a reference list on the Web somewhere?
