Zeiss Distagon C 40mm f4

Several months ago I -finally- found a 40mm F4 Distagon, mine is non T*. I got quite lucky on the price, only $485 US, and the seller had -just- spent $450 with John Van Stelton at Focalpoint in Colorado, fixing impact damage! I then sent the lens to David Odess, for a shutter clean and lube, and it's in great shape now. I really enjoy having the 40mm perspective, and I have found the "Buick Tire" shade at KEH in Atlanta for $85, and yellow and UV filters, cheaply on Ebay. Presently looking for the orange, and the green, to complete my 40mm set.

Surprisingly I have not had any flare problems with this lens, got hexagons once, when I deliberately placed the sun within the frame. It's really quite good! I have even shot a lot of on-camera flash frames, using my wedding strobes. It's seen a fairly good amount of use, so far. Quite a beast.........

It will certainly surprise KEH to hear they are also selling Buick tyres!

I also use a non T* version of the C Distagon 40.
As long as you use the shade there will be no problems with back light.

The only filter you have not mentioned is a polarizer.
Heliopan still makes those for a price tha comes close the price of a C 40 lens.

My 40290 Lens Shade 40 (Buick Tyre) came with what I believe, is a 50628 Glassless Filter Mount 104 for 40mm Distagon C lens. Do you know if this mount comes apart, to fit rimless special purpose filters?

How does it come apart?

I have filters from various stages of production.
Early filters and the glassless mount were finished in bright alu.

Later filters and possibly a later glassless mount as well were finished in black anodised alu.

With these later filters the glass part is secured by a rim without notches.
How the glass is fixed in early filters is not clear to me.
I have looked at the yellow filter but could not see how it is done.

Thanks for the info re the 104mm filters. I just won an early Green, silver mount, new-in-the-box. So, I now (like you) have new and old vintages of the Zeiss Distagon 40mm filters:

So, I don't have the 50628, like I thought. It's the black ring that comes with the Buick Tyre. I would like to find one, however, so that I can make my own filters, using rimless glass. A deep-red one would be cool :) Still looking for the original Hasselblad 104mm Orange.

More good news!

I have two spare B 104 Sky filters. Both are not in good condition.
They have numerous small and a few larger scratches all over them.

For one I have an idea that I would like to carry out myself. The other one is available.
If you convince me your offer is reasonable I will decide to say good bye to one of them.
Of course these filters are exactly what you need to make your own filter.

This red is made by a French manufacturer.
It does not say which just made in France.
The filter is pretty good I used it several times.
Heliopan is probably the best choice for filters :

Daniel, Igorcamera.com lists a 104 orange. I have dealt with them and they are an honorable source of Hasselblad equipment.

Heads up! KEH has a Hasselblad 104mm Zeiss Yellow-Green listed for $72US, if anybody here is interested. I already have that one.
 
Just found an original lenscap for my 40mm F4 Distagon, so I am about done with accessories for it. Cost $48US on Ebay, which I decided was acceptable. It is a big bayonet-mount cap, mine is marked with the Hasselblad "V". So I'm pleased.

Still looking for an orange for a good price ($50 to $100 US would be acceptable). Then I am done, unless I find one of Paul's pretty French red ones. :)
 
The red one has found a new and a good home.

Time is a good friend when looking for lenscaps etc.
A good friend found me one at a camera fair for only 12 USD.
That one was meant for the early 40 mm C lens I use now.
Another gift at 220 USD although it came with a broken governor for the shutter.
That is all taken care of. This is my work lens against the other 40 mm C lens I have, that one is as new.

My original 40mm F4 Distagon lenscap arrived yesterday. It's in perfect condition, just a bit dusty. I washed it off in the sink, and air dryed it. It fits very tightly on my 40mm lens, with no issues of the bayonet mechanism. Not inexpensive to buy, but with the huge front element on this one (mine has perfect glass) I felt it needed the protection, especially when in the camera bag.

My new chrome green 104mm Zeiss filter is very nice, too. Need to get out soon and play with it :)
