X2D L Bracket

Everyone has their own needs and way of working, so it’s good that there’s a suitable system for everyone... :)

I like the Leofoto L-bracket on the X2Dii very much, having bought it when RRS was delayed in getting theirs out. However, I just received the Peak Design Pro tripod I committed to via their Kickstarter and it is an ingenious and remarkable tripod. The only problem is that the locking mechanism doesn’t work with the design of an L-bracket. So, one seems to have to make a choice — the convenience of an L-bracket, or the convenience of Peak Design’s plate and locking mechanism. My guess is that the PD Pro is going to become my tripod for most uses.

My last stop on the X2D L-bracket journey is the Falcam cage. I find it’s construction premium, I really appreciate the AirTag location. My only negatives are that it doesn’t have a Quick Detach socket, and the screw on the L arm does not have a retention system so that when not needed, it comes loose in your camera bag.

I can see the advantages of the added protection of the FALCAM cage with the AirTag location, and the cost effective nature of the Leophoto / Piepro L brackets, but can I wave a flag for the RRS L bracket? Whilst it’s quite pricy it does have a great advantage - it’s possible to open the port covers without loosening any screw or moving the L bracket upright. This means you can quickly plug in a USB-C cable for charging/data or extract the memory card. The fact that the upright is more stable as it’s machined from a single piece of metal rather than two components screwed together is an added bonus.

I too second the RRS bracket. I have used their (yes, pricey) brackets for over a decade and they do not get in the way, and most of all, they have three benefits for me. 1) they allow me to change the battery without taking the bracket off, 2) they have an Allen wrench in the bracket so I can take it on and off easily and 3) I can take the “L” on or off as I desire.

I guess I don’t bang my camera around enough to worry about all over protection - I rely on the camera maker to help make the body secure enough. However, I am also a landscape photographer, and others may prefer something else. I like ‘simple’ best.

I just bought one of these

I just love the sturdiness of the Arca Swiss and the eas of use............not cheap but worth every penny

Congrats…..I did an early post on this in the thread….Probably the highest quality L-bracket in the market, but expensive…Certainly made in EU I am assuming….Love the 2-levers that allow easy adjustments and removable of components for access or attachment to tripods or other equipment….Great quality add-on to X system cameras….

All Arca-Swiss products are designed and manufactured in France or Switzerland…..

I got tired of waiting for RRS to offer a custom-fit X2D L bracket, so I recently bit the bullet and bought the PEIPRO, currently for $129, free shipping. It is sold thru the Chinese company AliExpress.
I will admit I had doubts, but after reading a couple of other positive comments from X2D owners, I decided to buy it. Well, long story short, I am 100% pleased with my purchase. It fits the X2D perfectly, and is as nicely built as my RRS L bracket on my X1D (FOR HALF THE PRICE of the RRS!!). The black finish blends perfectly with the X2D, and there is ample access to the battery. The side bar is adjustable up to about 3/4", so you can place it next to the body, or far enough away to have access to the doors. The side bar has its own thumb screw for tightening & loosening, and when extended outward, it also acts as a left-handed grip. Underneath, there are FOUR 1/4-20 threads, as well as a 3/8" thread.
I acquired the Ulanzi FALCAM Camera Cage for my Hasselblad X2D II. It fits perfectly and includes a location for a hidden AirTag. It is Arca-compatible.

For those of you with X2D2's that are considering the Falcam Cage, you might find a youtube video of interest from Mathphotograper" (being new here, I can't post the link). I find his videos to be pretty good. Pleasant guy, seems to know his stuff and sticks to the facts.

I don't have an X2D2 yet, but I plan to purchase one late this spring/early summer. My first accessory purchase will be that cage.

Yeah, he's the rogue who persuaded me about the Falcam which should be here in a couple of weeks. He is very good in his reviews. I count on him and Matt Osborne, both on YT.

The Falcam cage is very well made, and it matches the X2D II perfectly.

Yeah, well I need it like a hog needs roller skates but it looked like a good idea so I ordered it.
I can relate....

But, of all the accessories that I've bought over the years that have turned out to be of very little use (or just plain chinesium junk), this cage looks like it'll do a very nice job protecting the camera body and the finish in particular.

I've seen a lot of X2D's where it seems the finish has prematurely worn off. It's my hope that the cage will prevent some, if not all of that. I'm of the age where my X2D2 purchase will probably be my last high ticket camera purchase. And if all that is true, I'd like it to continue looking good for as long as possible.

I think you'll be happy with it. I also purchased it for the protection it offers, including the protection provided by the AirTag. I also suspect it will be my last expensive camera purchase. Being almost 81, it seems optimistic to think I'll wear out the X2D II!
