Scanning Xpan negatives

Afzal, I forgot to mention to go to the recent work pages where there are a lot more xpan images, especially in THE GREAT SMOKY MTN section.

Regarding the Epson 3200... Do yourself a favor and get the full version of Silverfast AI that comes with the Pro version of this scanner! If you already have the scanner go to www.silverfast.com and buy it!

John -- thanks for the link to the images. Very helpful.

Apparently people think film flatness is an issue with flatbeds. My impression is that with the 4870 Epson has addressed this (special glass film holder).

The 4870 looks to be a real winner. It adds some nice features to the 3200. Yes there have been times that film flatness appeared to be an issue and the glass holder should help. Great now I'll need to get another scanner....

Sorry about that

Is the 3200 software pretty usable (it looks like a jumble of applications, whereas Nikon has a bundle mostly from Kodak/Applied Science Fiction)?

Yes the software for the 3200 is very usable. Silverfast is reasonable as well. Actually the scanning software provided by Epson does a decent job. I just wanted to be able calibrate the scanner with and IT8 target etc, and Silverfast does this real well.

John

Just been to see your Xpan images on your website. Beautiful !!Fantastic !! Very nice. My compliments Sir.
Do you ever use Centre Filter with your 45mm lens?

Regards

Afzal

Afzal,

Yes, I always use the Center Filter for both the 45 and 30. I will even use it for the 90 as a work habit bit it probably is not necessary. Oh and thank you for your kind words!

John

Afzal,
have justed checked, the center filter for the 45 has part number 3054453 and the price was 460 USD last year in Hongkong.
Amstill awaiting your reply for the 90mm.
Rgds Peter

Has anyone tried using Epson Perfection 4870 to scan X-Pan film/slide in one go? How is the scan quality?

Thanks
Tom
