Phocus 4.0

Phocus 4.0 Desktop Version seems to have severe bugs.
It simply crashes if one wants to apply the new HNNR noise reduction.
The other thing is that using the import button doesn‘t transform the 3fr to the more condensed fff format, but creates another 3fr file.
Maybe this is because now the 3fr files can be edited directly and fff doesn’t have importance any longer.
But if you work tethered then a fff file is saved to the computer.

All very confusing…

Somebody suggested that on camera, the X2D, that you hit Skip when first connected, and then the import works as expected. That was in response to a similar post. I can’t see how it made a difference. I’ll text later.

The tethering is not the problem. But just the use of Phocus Desktop. If you click on a 3fr file to open the context menu then import will just create another 3fr file. If you click on HNNR then the program will crash… that‘s the issue!!

I never mentioned tethering. In reply to the same 3FR issue, somebody replied that changing to skip on camera resolved the issue and that you then got FFF files from Phocus. It didn't make much sense to me, thought I'd share it though

and no. that , not surprisingly, didn't work. you must select mass storage on camera to connect to a Mac. and imported 3fr files remain 3fr when I import using Phocus /. import and not FFF

I guess we'll need Phocus 4.01

oops

READ ME file says one can edit directly from the 3FR ...

Direct Editing of 3FR Files

Phocus 4.0 now supports direct editing of 3FR files from all X, CFV, and H6D cameras.

• 3FR images can be edited directly, without conversion to FFF.

• All adjustments are saved in a sidecar file, keeping the original RAW untouched.

• When importing from a camera or folder, the images remain as 3FR files and

are no longer converted to FFF.

Improved Highlight Recovery and Dynamic Range handling

• Using Exposure version V4

• Applies for both SDR and HDR

Support for new hardware

This release introduces support for the new X2D II 100C camera and the new

XCD35-100E lens.

My understanding is that Phocus 4 automatically applies HNNR with no option to skip or modify the noise reduction in any way. So if you already processed a file in Phocus Mobile 2 and then import into Phocus desktop, it's applying NR twice, which is diminishing image quality. Is that correct or am I reading the manual wrong?

No, after you imort the file, then youhave tomuse a right click on the picture - there are some options, so HNNR. A working window now opens and you can see the progress.

Not my experience, all works well... What I really miss is to import the files as fff-files. They have a 30% smaller file size and I dont' need HNNR on each file.

What is your desktop equipment and OS??
I have a Mac Studio M1 Max with 64 GB RAM, running with OS 13.3.1(a) [Ventura]
Phocus 4.0 is running well, the only problem is the crash with the HNNR option.

To import fff files you have to connect the camara via USB then choose skip on the display for tethered mode and then go to the camera SSD within Phocus. If you click on a 3fr thumb nail you get the information „old 3fr have to be imported first“ and then you can store the fff as before with older versions of Phocus.
