New camera from Hasselblad??

Well, sensor size could well play a role in pricing out an entry level camera, as well as video (which I seriously doubt would be part of this announcement).

A crop frame sensor didn't eliminate the H3D-II/31 from being a "systems" camera ... nor apparently does it stop Phase One from launching the crop frame P40+ with Sensor Plus technology ... which seems to be selling well.

But we'll see.

You could also argue that higher volumes of the (bigger) sensors should give HB a better price per sensor. The more interesting question is what price level an entry level HB should have, and at which pricepoint the Nikonians and Canononians will cave in and buy HB :)

But you are right, it is all speculation right now. But still nice to do, speculate I mean.

Probably not a new camera - rather an online stock agency / database / porftolio

Gents, doubt that it is going to be a new camera - rather I think it will be an online stock agency - portfolio.

At least if you read the blurb that the impression that is generated:

Curiosity’s killing you, isn't it?

What if we were to tell you that our little surprise is something that can help you get famous?

What if we were to tell you that we can put your work in front of hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people, absolutely free of charge?

What if we were to tell you that you still have to wait until February 1st to find out the rest?

That was my first impression, but I've changed my mind after more thought and talking to a rep. No info provided, but clearly more than just a piece of software. I now believe that the Countdown text is just mis-leading and nothing more than a teaser to halt speculation on the hardware front.

My guess is that it will give Leica a hard time. It will either be direct competition for the S2, or Hasselblad will re-introduce rangefinders, but this time without film. :) They have the know-how for both.

A real long shot is the acquisition of a well known German brand. Dr Kaufman has delivered the products that were on the drawing board when he bought the company. All speculation.

Yea, could sound like a portfolio presentation-section. That will feature lot more photographers than the chosen Hasselblad Masters. That would be a smart marketing move - you buy the camera and also possible get a little extra promotion in addition.

One more day, and we will know :)

Will someone post here what it is asap? I'll only have my iPhone for The next week which doesn't support Flash on the HB website. Thanks.

So it seams to be a H4D-40 (40 Mpix ) kit for 12'000 euro.
The info is dated on february first but fist demo on 10th.

Well, it appeared that Hasselblad has a good marketing group if it got us all fired up and excited for something that we sort of knew about already. Oh well, nothing to see here, move along...move along.

I just registered for the rollout event on 2/10 in the Washington DC area. Interestingly, the event is not scheduled for one of the 2 remaining Hassy retailers in the area, but rather at an Apple Reseller store in Gaithersburg, MD. Not a good sign for the Hassy dealers (maybe they don't care?) or the local users.
Cheers,
Mike

So it is just a launch event and Australia is not included. Second class citizens with the big companies as usual.

What a let-down. The club sounds interesting though, I will go back and have a look at that on the 10th.

Very disappointed. First: no technical info about the new camera except the name. The name tell that's camera is the same basis than the one presented month ago (H4D) and the sensor must have less pixel than the two version presented in 2009 (40 versus 50 and 60).

Then the HOC: first it remembers the HOG launched for Harley owners: A new 20 years old marketing's concept to help future owners to build an identity. For older Harley owner like me it's a broken image held by the trivial idea that a driving tool has to became a fashon stuf.
So now, to own a Hasselblad make you sense to belong to "The club" ?
I really hate "clubbing" and even if I post a lot here, it's never to get friends or to meet people but to share infos and experiences about gears.
When I saw this new video about "The H. club" I have the bad feeling to watch to the 10 years old advertisings for mobiles phones; as if Hasselblad future owners should be found in frustrated yungsters that will get a new sense to them lifes with the arrival of new communications tools.
So we had to wait the February first to know that infos will be available 10 days after: Thanks for showing how you consider my time.

Hello Odille,

Hasselblad a big company???

Research and Development, Design, Production, Marketing, Sales, Administration, Service and Management
together employ all but 70 people..........

Do not worry, many countries in Europe do not have a sales department for Hasselblad.
Old and well reputed dealers felt abandoned after Hasselblad closed their factory service departments.
The new importer for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg went bankrupt two months ago.

I am sure Kennedy in Australia will be able to tell you what is going on.

Paul
