My new SWC

Now i have the facts.
The serie 63 lenshood 38 has a lenght of 14 mm , as stated in some previous contributions . Thanks for that .
The serie 63 lenshood 50 has a lenght of exactly 18mm and does show slight shade in the corners when used on an HASSELBLAD SW (most probably also with SWC SWC/M) therefore it is absolutely not recommended to be used with a SW SWC and SWC/m cameras.
So RickNordins compendium must be corrected . The difference between the two hoods is not 2 but 4 mm and the serie 63 /50 should not be used on a SW , SWC or SWC/M camera .

I bought a `78 SWC and got it a couple of weeks ago, just thought I would give my impressions after spending this kind of money and having high expectations.
I didn`t get a bargain as I paid GST upon it`s arrival in Aussie of nearly $300au, bringing the grand total to au$2350 without a back!.
Do I care?....not a bit as this is by far the best camera I ever owned, it IS the special machine everyone makes out and when you get one you realise straight away what a great peice of work it is.
My main worries about the lens protruding into veiw turned out to be a mute point, the cons far outweigh any negatives in that it is such a great size in comparision to a 500C for ex&le, also that you can, as someone suggested carry the viewfinder around in your pocket, without having to carry the camera everywhere you go, this is a big big plus imo.
The camera is mint aside from scratching to the finder and around the barrel of the lens but all glass is mint condition.
I worship this camera and wouldn`t sell it for twice what I paid.
Ground glass screen and hood and caps are my next on the list, anyone have any for sale.
Is there a genuine hasselblad lens cap available for this camera? or are secondhand ones the only option?, and also are filters readily available.

Congratulations with the SWC. Compared to prices in Europe I would say it was a bit expensive but not that bad. Good luck with it.

If you go for a focusing screen adapter SWC , then go for the new type . The HASSELBLAD number is 41050 (3041050) . This one has an ACUTE MATTE screen and therefore is much better than the old type 41025 . I have both , but the older one is only a collectors item for me . Also i use the reflex viewfinder RMfx , which i think is very handy .
Both , the SWC adapter and also the RMfx can be found on E-BAY from time to time .
Good luck .

Thanks yes I got carried away and paid a little too much for sure, I think au$1900 would be more near the mark for a camera in this condition, it is a great great user camera though!!, after all I didn`t buy it for collector purposes at all, on a side note I just developed my first b&w negatives in probably well over ten years and it`s amazing what you "don`t" forget!, they are not half bad.

Thanks for the advise Jurgen I will most definately follow it and get a new model screen, I`ll see how I go with the finder but can I use a H-4, I know someone said they are rubbish but I had already bought one

.
I edited this last question as it was answered earlier, but with the lens hood will a 60-38 fit an SWC?, or do I need a 63 series 38.
Is 38 the length and 60 the series or diameter across?.

No, the 60-38 will not fit. 60 means it has a bayonet 60 attachment, like most CF lenses. You need the older type of hood which is 14mm deep + screwthread. You can also use the older type of compendium (professional) lenshood but I do not know if it fits directly or if you need an adapter.

Thanks Frank that clears it up, I seen one advertised as a SWC hood and it was 60-38, I thought it didn`t sound like the right one.

Jurgen, those RMfx viewfinders you mentioned, can you also use these on the top of a 500 series as per usual, and do they provide an unreversed view like the other eye level types do?.
Just wondering why I have never seen one anywhere apart from on the back of an SWC or Flexbody?.

Thanks

Mark

The RMfx viewer can not be used in the way a PM/PME finder is used .
The attachement level of an PM/PME finder is horizontal . The attachement level for the RMfx is vertical and can therefore only be used on the back of a 500/200 serie camera by using the
focus screen adapter 41057 .
