My new SWC

Having put three rolls of Velvia 50 through the SWC/m, I am delighted with the results; I did try a screw on 67mm lens hood, but had to cut it down considerably, as there was a lot of vignetting. It is almost impossible to find a genuine screw fit Hassy item unfortunately, likewise a cable release; and I did contact Robert White dealers !
The taper jobs do NOT fit - mine has a parallel screw fit on the shutter release- back to the drawing board. I hope someday I will find the above items- I did manage to get a mint screen adapter, so we are getting there. All academic really, as the lens is superb! just for your interest.

Jerry, the genuine Hasselblad lens hoods show up on ebay quite often. At least the lens shade of the 50 mm C-lens which is nearly the same. If you get your hands on the 50 mm version you have to shorten it by 2 mm with a lathe (Drehbank) to avoid vignetting.

Jerry,

On the Hasselblads that I have had problems with connecting a cable release, I have found that an "L Connector" makes a good connection to the shutter release button, and the cable releases I had difficulty with seem to have a good fit with the L-Connector as well.

RE the 50mm C lens hood on the SWC, I use one and have not had vignetting. It seems identical to the 38mm one I originally had.

As far as I recall Rick Nordin's book mentions that the 38mm variant is some 2mm shorter than the 50mm one.

So , how long is the lens hood for the 38mm lens ? ? ?
I have a SWC905 but also a SW from 1957 and i would like to know
how long is the lens hood for a SW , SWC ? ? ?
Can you please go and measure the lenght of that lens hood ? ? ?
thanks Jürgen

As with all wide angle lenses, a 'proper' lens hood has to be very short, and does not do a lot.

Will it be worth a lot of effort to find the proper one? I think not.

Hi,

I do not have a SWC hood, only a 50mm C hood. I opted to go for a CF 40mm for my 500cm instead of a SWC.

If you want, I can measure my 50mm hood though.

I got my SWC/M late model with CF lens with a hood 38-60 mm it is printed ø60/38-60 The inner diam 70 mm - outer square mesurement 80 x 80 mm - height of hood 27 mm - I did not know until I checked now, that it was not the original hood for the SWC - it works fine with no signs of vignetting

The CF bayonet 60 hood 38-60 hood is indeed not the original hood for the pre-CF SWC versions, and will work perfectly with the CF version (that's what it was made for after all

).

The measurements however do not simply transfer to the series 63 C-lenses and 'automagically' produce the correct length hood for these lenses.
They might. But only knowing the dimensions of the original hood will tell.

Q.G.
Yes i am aware of what you say in your last contribution as i am also working with a SWC905 .
Thanks to all other contributions.Up to now i have still no answer .

Wilko , if you can measure the lenght of the "50" lens shade , that would be fine .It is obviously the same diameter than the one for the SW 38mm and i can get one "50" easier than a "38" . But i can shorten that one . I have a machine and the ability to do so . In that case its not an original one but it would be a "working" one and therefore i would like to know the length as you offered to measure .

Q.G. You metioned , that a lens shade for the BIOGON would not be of much use or at least not very effective . O.K. i agree to some extend , but i any case , it is better than no lens shade at all.

For those who are interested , i have more details now .
The "38" lens shade is for the HASSELBLAD SW and the SWC's which use the SERIE 63 filters . It has the "SERIE 63 thread" , a diameter of aprox. 90mm and a length of 14mm . The "50" lens shade is used for the DISTAGON C 50 mm and C 60 mm with the "SERIE 63 thread" , same diameter and has a length of 16mm . I have added this information to my compendium .

Jürgen,

Should you manage to find a series 63 "38" shade, try it on your SW:

The shade, as you know, only appeared with the SWC, was not available for the SWA/SW.
All of these have a series 63 mount, and the SWC shade will fit the older SWA/SW. But whether or not they can make use of the same length shade (they probably can) would be more usefull information to add to the Compendium.

So if you can find out, please let us know!

Taras, the L connector is something of a "must have" after you first try one out. To me the big benefit is that it allows the cable to "swing" freely without undoing the cable. I now use them on all my LF lenses too as well as when shooting 35mm with a cable release.

Thanks Frank
I will try that 14mm lenshood on my SW from 1957 to see if it works . But still i have not got it .
