How compelling is the CW winderhand grip

Hi Carl,

Yep, you can fit 2 batteries in an EL. NiCd originally produced by Varta. The camera happily runs with one.

I liked the EL, agree that it has a different feel to the 503CW + grip, however the focusing with the grip on the 503 CW is restricted as the grip covers the button. Not a problem but
not found when using the EL, you can get your hand completley round the focusing ring.

The 503 also comes with the large button sized remote control infra red which can be fun when photographing a group or portrait, the picture can be taken when they least expect it from your pocket. ( When you move away from the camera they are not expecting a shot to be taken) cheers!

Carl,

The EL-models certainly are fine thingies. I too like them. But i, like Wilko, also have a non-EL to carry around.

You can release an EL remotely too, of course. You need a third party radio unit to do that.
The ELD will even use the same remote trigger unit as the CW, provided you attach the Hasselblad made IR receiver unit to it. But unlike radio, IR does not work from inside your pocket.

Hi Q,

I guess you know that you can easily craft your own trigger cable for the EL? The right "DIN" plug and something like a little relay is all you need to trigger an EL. Whatever you use to feed the relay coil is up to your imagination...

Wilko,

I know, yes. But i have cables coming out of my ears, thank you.

I believe you meant "switch" when you wrote "relay".
Did you mean a remotely controlled switch, plugged into the camera? We were talking about covert, wireless remote control though. Not running cables for everyone to trip over.

The tricky bit is the sender part. You can buy those, of course. But if you are going tot spend money, you might as well get the matching receiver part as well.

Sure, any wireless remote control that can be taught to drive a simpel relay can be used. I wrote relay, that is what I meant. I do not need more cabling either.
