Hasselblad V Series Images

Now this is how I like it!! I do appreciate all the excellent help and advice that's been given to me since joining, but a photographic forum needs member's images posted on a regular basis. Can't get enough of Hassy images, plus it's nice to see what we're all shooting - from the strict pro's to the pure amateurs on board. Keep 'em coming.
Being a somewhat "amateur" V camera user since 1972, I am most intrigued with images from these venerable cameras, and now even more so with the CFV back.
Here's one I recently shot with the 180 CF and a CFV back (@ ISO 50) on a 501CM. Metered with a PME 51, it's an HDR image comprised of 3 exposures (-2, 0, +2). It's the side of the Tennessee State Capitol building in Nashville. I photographed it from a new State Park called Bicentennial Mall built recently to celebrate 200 years of Tennessee statehood (1796-1996). The "mall" is very similar to the National Mall in Washington, DC. At the far end of the mall, behind me, is the most fantastic set of carillon bells you have ever heard. They play "Tennessee" music on the hour. I'm working on an HDR image of them, and may post one at a later time.

PS - I hope I haven't posted this one already!

Ok, thought I'd share one more of the Capitol. This is a 3-image horizontal stitch, with 3 exposures of each image (a total of 9 images) sent thru Photomatix HDR processing plus CS3. I used the 100 CF and CFV back @ ISO 50.

PS - I know the colors don't match on these two images. I did the two shots without paying attention to each other. Sorry about that!

Eduardo..that is a terrific shot...I first looked at the "pointy" hill and thought so? then I saw the "ghost" of the volcano and thought holy sh*t.

Hi everybody,

there is a trick to present the images here even nicer: Without the grey line around them. But few people know about this trick with this software.

We will post later a step by step guide for this with screen shots. The the time beiing, I will describe it here in a few words. I hope that the description sounds logical:

Upload images so that they look nice (without grey line around them)

The software actually offers 2 different ways, but only one of them looks nice. We try to avoid ugly greyish borderlines around the image. We only want to show the image itself and the dark background of the forum. This is IMHO the best way to present the image nicely.

So how to avoid these grey lines around the image?

Look above the textbox (when you answer to a posting). In the first line of icons, there is a "paper clip" icon. Use only this icon. No other icon, no other button.

Actually you have to use this "paper clip" icon twice. First you click on it, to upload a picture. A pop-up screen appears, you select the image from your harddrive, upload it and close the window. THEN you hit AGAIN the "paper clip" icon. Now a pull-down menu appears with the names of the images you uploaded already in your temporary memory.

Select the one which shall be inserted. Click on "select all" to insert all at the same time. Now a code appears in the textbox. something like "attach # attach" in parenthese.

You can write text between above and below this code if you want to. Save it and you see all images appear without a grey line and your text between the images...

Hope that helps

And please respect the rule here, that we only allow images if they are uploaded here on our server.

Our experience is, that it is not a question of the "if", only a question of "when" the image will be moved/deleted from its original place and then all our threads with images are useless, because the linked image on the external server is gone or moved.

Only if images are upload in the way I wrote it above, we can be sure, that also in 2 weeks or 3 years the image and the whole image discussion is not not.

This is why uploading images by linking to other servers is not allowed.

Thanks for your understanding in advance

Best wishes

Here's one off the first roll of film I shot with my 501CM last summer. I was trying each of the 3 lenses I owned at the time (50 CFi, 80 CFE & 150 CFi)....I think this was taken with the 80, but maybe the 50. Fuji Provia 100. Scanned with an Epson V750 Pro and Silverfast AI v6.

Oh yes....I know it's not square.....I hope that's ok. This one just looked alot better to me cropped tightly.

Something a little different from my usual subjects. This also with the 501CM and 80 CFE on Fuji Provia. Scanned with the Epson V750 Pro (which I really like).

Also, one question.....is there a way for me to post larger images, such as some of fotografz/Marc's above? One of the benefits of being a CI-Club member?

Dirk, I can fully appreciate and understand your position regarding images and external servers.

The problem I have is that I need to retain full control over my images. Unfortunately this server issue means that I will now have to take a back seat here and sit back and enjoy the show rather than post my own images.

Apologies for unwittingly breaching the HasselbladInfo image netiquette.

Best wishes

Hi Keith,

You can upload normally and in case somthing HAS to be deleted (i.e. you sold the rights), Paul can delete it or exchange it against a mini-thumbnail of that image.

But you have to be aware, that no matter how you technically show an image on the internet, the second you upload it, everybody can copy it and misuse it. As soon as it displays in a browser, no matter whether via link or uploaded through our server, "bad guys" can "steal" it.

So if your hesitation is a copyright/ "steal" fear, I am sorry to say, that the fact to link an image to your own server does not help at all in this regard. It is the exact same "risk" as uploading on our server.

So looking from this point of view, there is nothing bad with uploading it on our server ;)

Or did I mis-interpreted your argumentation?

Best wishes

Hi Dirk ... when are you going to get a Hassey and post here with us ... LOL!

Okay, let's try your attachment suggestion.

Here's another image that I just added to my collection of "Hood Ornaments", it was shot yesterday with the 203FE, 110/2FE and CFV-II back ... It's an old Caddy emblem:

(Hey everyone ... you can upload images to 1200 pixels @ 585 ppi ... so why the tiny little uploads? This is one of the best features of this site ... you can load MF images bigger than most other sites!)

Hi Dirk

No, this is not copyright abuse issue as such, although I'm very aware of the situation.

My images are my living and as such I need to have full control of authorised uses and where and when they appear which I can only achieve if the images are hosted on my own server.

As I said before I do fully appreciate your position.

Two things -
One, I kinda like the gray border around our pictures, and don't see anything wrong or objectionable with it. Am I weird?

Two, in reference to posting size - when images post too big, they become difficult to view and take in, as you can only see a portion at a time. In my opinion, having an image so big that you need to scroll up/down and/or left/right ruins the whole thing. Granted, you can see detail better, but you can't really grasp the meaning of the image as a whole. Posting bigger just because you can may not necessarily be in the best interest of your image. I'd certainly like to post a little bigger than I have been, and now that I know I can , I will. But personally, I intend to keep the image to a size where the viewer can see the whole thing onscreen at once, without having to scroll. It just really annoys me when I can't view the entire image onscreen. It's like someone showing you a print, but instead of giving you the entire print, they cut it up into 3-4 pieces, and show you only one piece at a time. Aauuugh!
But regardless, please keep the images coming!!

That didn't quite work..hmmm

Steve

You wrote etxt between the two attach markings. There should be only the internal image number, no other text.

You can enter your own text one line ábove and one line below the attach signs, but nothin inbetreen. Then it will work...

Hi

this is for everyone diferent and depends only on your screen resolution. If you have screen resolution of 1024x768, you will have to scroll a lot and you will prefer i.e. an image with 800 pixel on the longest side just because of this.

If you have a screen resolution of 1600 or 1900 on the longer side, an 800 pixel image looks tiny and a 1200 pixel image looks great. You then can see it without scrolling.

So there is no god or bad per se. The problem is, that there will never be a size for images that is perfect for everybody because of the individual screen resolution of each user's screen.

Best wishes
