First results from the new CFV 39

There is a bit of a backlog for the CFV/39 because I think they under-estimated the immediate pent up demand for such a back. Apparently, this thing is selling like hot cakes ...

Bradley is right the CFV nor any other DB from Hasselblad can not be turned from landscape to portrait mode.

To use the camera in portrait mode the body needs to be tilted 90°.
That makes the use of a 90° prism or 45° prism necessary.
For some user this is not convenient, others have no problem operating the camera in tilted position.

Hasselblad does offer the CF/CFII39 and with the appropriate i-adapter it can attach to numerous camera platforms such as Mamiya, Contax, Rollei and of course Hasselbad. We manufacture a 2 way adapter which will allow the photographer to remove the back and rotate it from Landscape to Portrait or visa-versa.

Yes, I've been hearing that from quite a few folks--that's great news that it's doing so well!

Now I can begin my underground, stealth lobby campaign to get Hasselblad to bring out a Vii--a fully modern 200-series camera, with a completely electronic mount, refreshed AF Zeiss 6x6 lenses and with full backward compatibility with the legacy V-series backs & lenses! Vive Le Square!! Oh crap, did I say that out loud???

Thanks, Saad, for the photos! I too love how the screen is bigger, and I took note that the backs are clearly designed for a full 56mm square sensor. At least we know the designers were planning ahead when they built this platform--good to see!

Thanks Paul for correcting me about the adapter for the CF/CFII39 DB.

I had doubts when I wrote that post but did not remember clearly this DB offers this option.

I am glad everyone enjoyed that beautiful looking sensor and how brand new my CFV16 looks

After a hard days work comparing the CFV16 with CFV39, I have come to some definite conclusions about most of the differences. Hope to post them soon, with photos, which I will make available raw.

Now I see what they mean when they say "things are not always obvious at first glance". That is if anyone actually said that, but it is appropriate in this case.

What's the quality of the new viewing screen like. It's the Achilles heel of my CFV and it compares unfavourably with every other digital camera I've seen.

Anybody have a workaround for the CFV screen when used in sunlight ?

First I would like to apologize for not being able to post, shortly after my last post my internet connection went down. Apparently there is some big contruction going on close by. If by this after its not back, I will bring everything to work and send it from here.

The screen of the CFV39 is better than the one on the CFVI by far. In bright sunlight it is difficult to see just like all the other cameras, of course it is not as good as the one on the Nikon D3x if only in terms of size alone. In sunlight I just turn on the highlight warning feature and it helps a lot.

It may be useful to know Saad lives in sunny Saudi Arabia giving any camera screen a hard time to show images.

Hi everyone, at this point I will attach some images taken with the CFV39 without a tripod, using the 205FCC at iso 100, shutter speeds of 750/1 to 1000/1 of a second. It was mid afternoon with the temp 38C, and the type of lighting that was not complimentary. All the photos have been taken with that fantastic CF180 at f5.6, this lens is made for this back. I added contrast to all the pics and a slight sharpening for actual pixel photos because when converted to jpeg you loose a lot. One photo was cropped. I did not touch white balance except a very slight tint reduction in one.

My detailed evaluation of the differences betwee the CFV16 and CFV39 will come, I hope by tomorrow. My internet line is still down so I may not be able to respond after 3 hours from now.

The following photos are there to give you an idea of what the CFV39 is capable of.

I will wait for your comments as to what you think. All the photos I will make available raw, if I am given a step by step instructions that is.

Next thing would be a straight compatison between the CFV16 and the CFV39.
If I understand you correctly you have that in mind?

Larger RAW files can be send with a special program called "Send this file"
Jürgen knows all about that method.
He used it for the limited edition calendar of 2009.

These appear to lack the snap, crackle and punch of the CFV-II.

But I think it's a matter of processing the files.
