A sad moment in Zeiss history

Hi Terry,

Looks this story is now an "end good, all good" one.

Not really what I expected when I had the dented bits of aluminium in my hands back in May, I have to admit.

But this is sure a good thing

Hi Wilko. Your first statement in this thread......."Please mourn with me the death of this brand new F 350 lens"

Through transplant surgery it appears there is life after death!

For the curious, some pictures of the finished goods

It is kind of interesting to note that this forum was instrumental to getting Terry's lens from the US and Paul's electronics from Germany to 'marry' over here in the Netherlands. The magic of the Internet at work, aided by Paul having a top repair man to do the work.

And of course Terry was brave enough to send his precious lens over to Europe.

cheers,
Wilko

It was the brotherhood and dedication of the contributers that I sensed that gave me the confidence to send my lens overseas, to people I don't even know, and include hard earned money for the chance to get this upgrade. Paul is a true Hasselblad affectionado who went beyond the call to make this happen. I only paid for the parts and labor, not for any of Paul's considerable effort and time involved. All I had to do was risk my lens to the mail system, which I could only insure for $500, and some dollars, which I could earn again.

This forum made it happen, nothing else could achieve this result!

Terry

Hi Terry,

I had you in a bind as you already paid for the parts to notice later
it was not easy to find a good technician in the US to fit the parts.
Of course I would have repaid you if it was not possible to upgrade your lens.

To keep the old gems in my collection in good condition I happen to have a few friendly repairmen in my book.
The first time the 350 lens was on my 205 camera after the conversion and showed the correct F number was a special moment.

Thanks for the confidence you gave me.
I realise it must have been difficult to put your lens in a box to send it to someone in Europe you do not know by any other means than some posts at the forum.

Paul

A closest focusing distance of just 6.3 feet is fantastic! What a lens and Terry and Wilko's pics of the 350 stirs the blood!

And Terry, your comment: ##Through transplant surgery it appears there is life after death!## And like you said, this forum is a wonderful place - made so by wonderful and generous people.

It was lucky that the donor's intentions were known when the patient's need for a transplant was greatest!!

So this 350mm is now a CF+E 350mm lens!

Simon,

You give me far too much credit here:

The 350F lens from Terry was only upgraded from F to FE spec.
If Terry wanted to have a shutter built in as well making it a CFE he forgot to mention that.

The repairman who did the job is a wonderfull guy but I think he would have objected to the idea of fitting a shutter in this lens.

It is good to see new posts from you.

Paul

I'm sure Paul has a shutter in parts lying around. For an inspired DIY person that should not present a problem.

Take care.. ;-)

Wilko

Paul:

I understand Terry's delay, I have a number of CFE lenses that are due there annual workout!

Terry

But this one has a shutter . It is a one speed precision shutter of about 1/100sec .

Also , this gear is an ideal combination for those , who want to take a week off , and not use HASSELBLAD gear all time .

There is a precision positioning head and please note also the precision view finder from VOIGTLÄNDER .
What else does the B/W fan need ? Good B/W films and also the 3x power tele lens , just small enough to put it into your trouser pocket .

Enjoy your week off .

A shutter (even to 1/250) in the 110mm 2.0 should help sales a lot !

What new about setting "E" data in a old F lens to convert to a FE ?

I read that was no possible any more. Bad fact. Perhaps convert a 100mm 3.5 in a CFE lens should have been appreciate !

Hasselblad do not want to creats this improvment. Why not show how it works so specialists cann try to build something.
(The same to convert the flash D-40 in automatic mode)

Isidor,
the construction of the high speed lenses like the 2,0/110 or 4,0/350 became possible because there were no restraints imposed by the diameter of the lens shutter.

Ulrik

Ulrik,

If you look at a sinar shutter, you may imagine that a shutter for the 2.0 may have be possible. Perhaps not to the max speed of 1/500...

I wonder if a 80mm 2.0 with shutter was built for Rollei years ago (?)

Yes , that is the "SWC" version . It is marked 6x6 on the back of the finder . That finder was available here in Germany only for a very short time and I missed to buy the finder . So I got it from the VOIGTLÄNDER keydealer in the U.S.
