Xpan 2 flash sync question

O

Omega1968

Hi
I have just bought a Xpan 2. After reading the manual have found that you can have the flash at the begining or end of the exposure.
What difference does this make to the finished picture?
regards
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
When you take a long exposure shot, for instance of a moving car at night, the flash can be used as a complementary light source to show a fixed image of the car.
If the flash is made at the start of the exposure, the car will then leave a trail as it moves, making the trail precede the vehicle, and seem to move backwards!
If the flash occurs at the end of the exposure, the trail will appear to follow the vehicle and give an impression of movement.
This is sometimes called second curtain flash.
Regards, Gérard
