Wow, H4?

Even swap 50 to 50

I just took delivery of the Hd3-50 on the understanding that when the H4D-50 arrives it is an even swap of the body, no charge. If the 4-60 arrives first, we pay the retail difference between the 3-50 and 4-60 if we choose to. The above comments are somewhat confusing. In summary, the upgrade trail is a good one. Buy the 3-50 now is as good as buying the 4-50 now and protects us for the upgrade to the 4-60 at a protected price that is simply the difference between the 4-50 and 4-60. I guess we are buying futures.

It wasn't accurate. You can trade up from the H3d-50 to the H4d-50 at no charge. You have to pay extra to go up to the H4d-60 though and that is what I am trying to figure out.

From the press release located here
http://www.hasselblad.se/news/hasselblad-global-conference-rocks-kennedy-space-center.aspx

"H3D-II cameras purchased between now and 2010 Q1 will be upgraded to the H4D-50, free of charge. Owners of H3D-31 and H3D-39 cameras will have a step-up program to the H4D platform."

Excellent, H3DII-31/39 not left out here. I did send an inquiry to my local
dealer on what the upgrade of my H3DII-31 to H4D-50 would mean in terms of Euro's. Will keep you posted..

Anyway, glad Hasselblad is back to offer some upgrade path to existing
customers.

Best Regards,
Ralf

upgrades

Great news - thanks Paul !
I agree that Hasselblad upgrade policy is excellent. In this economy if they had wanted they could have taken a more limited approach. I was top Hasselblad dealer in Canada back in the 70's. (sold that business in the early 80's) Made a decision to come back to new Hasselblad's after I saw the H3DII50 at Photokina 2008. Love it - amazed with the quality of the fuji lenses compared to my stable of zeiss lenses (I purchased adapter) Now will use my zeiss optics only for speical needs and will typically use the fuji hasselblad lenses.

I am looking forward to getting the 60 and seeing what it can do - I think this camera when you look at the specifications will set the pace. The S2 in my view while an interesting camera is really an advanced "35" offering rather than the high high end medium format. I was top dealer in Leica as well so I respect Leica but I love Hasselblad - it appears that the engineeering culture I learned and respected during my visits years ago to Sweden is alive and well.

The S2 is a big gamble for L - too off-topic and disrespectful to go into here. I will say this though - I am *very* curious about the IQ and will test drive one. Love leica glass and build quality. And DNG.... how easy life would be if H used DNG....

Back to reality - does anyone know when Phocus 2 is due for release? Q4 ?

Phocus 2.0 is currently in beta and if all testing goes well a release should follow in approx a month.
