"The" lens for a new 500CW kit

Hello everybody,

I have a good opportunity to purchase a new 503CW from a local dealer with a lens of my choice. In your opinion, what should be THE lens to get new? The 100 CFi maybe?
I have to add that I have various other C and CF lens but nothing from the last generation. Would you consider this -getting a brand new lens- be just a waste of money?

Thank you.

Cristian

Performance from all 100 mm Planars is excellent, the last version wins with only a very small margin.

It is without any doubt the lens to go for considering the smaller range of focal lengths still available from Hasselblad for the V series.

Thank you very much for the answers. I will meet the dealer sometime the second week in January and will see then what I can get and how much the whole thing will cost.

Merry Christmas to everybody.

Hi, all - I also recommend the CFi100 and I use it as my standard lens. However, please note that the 80mm lens normally used as standard does give more flexibility on depth of field, a small but noticeable difference.
Happy holidays,
Mike

Christian,

What are you intending to photograph? Match the lens to your shooting style. For example, if you will be shooting landscapes, you might want to start off with a 40mm, 50mm or 60mm lens.

The 100mm might be the right one but it might just be an expensive mistake if it doesn't do what you want it to do.

Go check out what various lens focal lengths offer and then buy the right one for your circumstances and aspirations.

Happy hunting...

If I had to make this choice based on what I use most, I would indeed get the 50mm. Or the 40CFi, especially if Santa had brought me a digiback :z04_9856:

Never the 80. 100mm... I just don't know. The image quality of that lens is beyond doubt, no question there. Just the focal length..

Thank you everybody for the advices. I made my "short list" based exactly on the focal lengths that I use the most and indeed it seems that I will have to chose between 50 and 100 (the 40 CFi seems to be outside my budget :D ).

Anyway, the next week I will meet the Romanian official dealer and will let you guys know ;)

All the best in 2011.

Save some money and buy a late model 80mm. It is very sharp and contrasty and will give a very shallow DOF. Recently I purchased one with a ding in the front element. It was a good buy because of that. But when I tested it against my nice old T* 80mm, it was sharper with more contrast. Another benefit is that it is wider especially if you are using a digital back.
