Paul, maybe you know the answer to this -
When the lens is stored on the camera with the shutter fired, what is the position of the aperture blades? Stopped down, or wide open? It's impossible for a layman to tell since once the shutter is fired, the blades are hidden from view front & back.
I tend to think that they remain stopped down until you recock the shutter, but don't know for sure. And if so, with the shutter already fired, could you stop the lens down farther by simply turning the aperture ring?
