Something Fishy This Way Comes.............

Congrats on the purchase of this rare lens.

Take good care of the internal filters.
They are hard to find and cost over 200 USD each from Carl Zeiss.
Not even sure Zeiss still sells them.

Vic.

Thanks Guys!

I have received an email message that my new fish lens is being shipped.
Henrys in Toronto is a very large and reliable source for Hasselblad.
What made the deal (for me) is the fact that it comes with the filters.
Also the price is very good, KEH in Atlanta has one right now, in slightly better condition, for $3150

Fish Lens is Here!

It's in great condition, I cleaned the tape goo off the lens barrel with lighter fluid, covered the numbers scaratched on the lens barrel with strips of black electrical tape. It looks really nice now! Speeds seem reasonable, slow speeds need some exercise. Figured out how to take it apart, the front has a catch, then turn the knurled breech lock ring. Red dots align when you put it back together. Bit of dust internally, brushed out now. Needed a front lenscap, ordered one new for $25 from B&H.

Taking it out today, to finish a roll of B&W 70mm film. Using the yellow filter today, EL/M and Meter Prism. Whole thing fits nicely in my Domke 803 Messenger Bag:

I am thinking of buying a Flexbody, but I do not think I would use it that much for perspective correction. I have even fewer times that I would use the tilt for depth of field correction.

So while I am considering the buy/no buy decision on the Flexbody I have been looking at other lenses sold by an undisclosed place in Georgia with a triglyph for a name. I have 38mm [903 SWC], 50mm CF, 80mm CF, 150mm CF, 250mmCF and a 2X extender. That leaves the 30mm, 350mm and the 500mm lenses. Hence, I have been following this thread. Would you please start posting uncropped and non-touched up photographs take with the 30mm lens? I would like to see photographs that show the fisheye effects on straight lines and photographs that do not show any of the bending [landscapes and close ups].

Steve

Even on Closeups and Landscapes it Bends the Lines.

Blast From the Past, circa 1973. Notice how it bends the lines, even on landscapes and closeups:

Thank you.

I expect parallel lines to converge with the perspective [to the vanishing point], but I am not setting noticeable barreling. Are these straight negative scans or have they been touched?

One Final Blast, from Hasselblad Lenses (1975).

Hasselblad always had such lovely and expensive brochures.
Notice how it bends the straight lines.

Oh, I thought the photographs were from the lens .... no the photographs in the magazine are the ones you are talking about.

Steve

They are good examples of what the lens is capable of. I have shot some test film, but have yet to develop or scan it. The view through the lens is wonderful, I hope the resolution is up to snuff. I certainly expect it to be at this point. Will try to post something ASAP, I'm still scanner challenged, although I now know I want to buy an Epson V700.

Fishy and more from the 1970's

I often enjoy my old Hasselblad brochures. They were very high quality through the 1970's till early 2000's. Just a glimps attached!

My Fishy Lens is Ready to Rock!

Indoor Rock Concert tonight! Using the 30mm Dist with Norman 200b/Wideangle diffuser (homemade) on Stroboframe bracket.
1/60 at F16 ten feet away, standing on the stage front. I just shot a Fujiroid 100C, it covers fish completely and looks very cool. EI 100 Agfapan 100 in one A12, EI 160 Fujicolor 160 NPC in another A12. Gotta go!

30mm Distagon Lenscap arrives.

I special-ordered the "Front Lens Cap 30" ($25) from B&H, and it arrived yesterday. It's #50709, which is listed in my 1979 product catalogue, as being the correct cap. However, it was not fitting tightly on my new lens!

So I carefully cut some velvet ribbon of the appropriate thickness, and very carefully applied contact cement to the ribbon, and the inner rim of the cap. Then very carefully stuck the whole thing together, and let it dry thoroughly. Now the cap fits my C T* 30 Distagon fisheye very snugly.

I guess the newer fisheye front mount is of a larger diameter than my earlier C lens?

Lenses are the same size.
It is the front cap that somehow grows larger or becomes too flexible to stick on the lens.

I go for new unused caps if the need arises to replace a front lens cap.
This also goes for the 40 CF(E) the 50 F(E).
Luckily the 40 mm C lens has a bayonet mount for the lens cap!
