Sharpening Flexcolor Vs C1 Pro

Michael

Don't worry , "off topic" happens very often , and I do not see a problem with that . This is a community , which also lives by small talk , no matter in which thread this will happen .

Now back to your topic :
I use a CFV back and my experience so far is , that different images need different sharpening . Up to now , I can not really say , which type of image needs what sharpening .

But in general , the TIFF files , I create from the 3FR raw , need a sharpening .
I use a method of two consecutive sharpenings in PSCS3 .
The first is mostly around 120/1,3 . Then I save the image . The second sharpening is mostly at 100/0,8 . The trick is , not to over sharpen the image . It needs a bit of experience , which you will get by the time . But I would like to say , that there is no golden rule .
I made the same experience when scanning LF negatives with an ARTIXSCAN 1800f .

Jotloob: Thanks for your thoughts. Also, I did not mean to be rude when asking to remain on-topic.

Back to topic: can any one confirm a rumor that C1 Pro always sharpens the RAW file "under-the-hood" even when sharpness amount is set to zero or disabled? I can see this as more of a marketing strategy to make the Phase DB's SEEM to yield sharper images out-of-the-box than competative brands. From my experience with C1 Pro so far, it seems to make sense since viewing images with sharpening disabled seems sharper than same setting in Flexcolor.

Yes Michael, as I stated before Capture One always sharpens, even with sharpening disabled. That's mine and many others' experience.
It's better than it was, i.e. it used to be even sharper.
I've appealed to Phase One several times to allow sharpening to be truly disabled.

I know a lot of people like C-1, but I never did for that very reason. I do not sharpen in the capture programs for any of my digital cameras ...

I have never sharpened in Flexcolor, and have never taken it off the basic 50 setting. Prefer to process to the largest size possible, retouch/correct, and then sharpen each application of that file based on the resize for printing. As sharpening programs have improved, I can return to a file and implement it.
