Saving files as DNGs out of FlexColor whats the story?

Of course you can export the Hassi files to DNG out of FC - no problem at al. The only drawback i am aware is in your case that the DAC optimization will not be in the DNG files.

Just click the "Save" button, or right click an image to get a drop-down menu. That gives you another drop-down menu beginning with "Normal" at the top and "DNG" at the bottom.

Just import the CF card into Flexcolor (Window> Import>Select the CF card), select any or all files, check the "Exp. DNG" box, when the dialog box opens create a destination file and it'll automatically convert all the selected files into DNGs. No need to do each file separately.

I guess what I'm really driving at is the inability to save as DNGs *with* the DAC optimization included.

Is that ever going to happen?

Not in the immediate future that I've heard of.

Hasselblad maintains that the optimal way to process their RAW files is through their software solutions. Most users agree with this. The new Phocus software due soon is supposed to increase workflow productivity in the manner of Lightroom, while maintaining the IQ and DAC corrections of Flexcolor. We don't have a long time to wait to see how true that is. A preview of Phocus is available for review on the Hasselblad site.

Is PHOCUS going to replace FLEXCOLOR or is PHOCUS just for the H-SYSTEM cameras ?
I could not find any information about this on the HASSELBLAD pages .

Phocus is not available yet ... but what it looks like, and a description is available to view on the Hassy site.

As far as I understand, Phocus will replace Flexcolor and work with all cameras and scanners.
Obviously, the features are more extensive for H3 cameras with their data bus communication and firmware upgrades using that info.

Are the DAC data the only data to be NOT transferred into the DNG file ?

Because the difference between the files size is big !

"The 1st level of the DAC correction (chromatic aberration) will be preserved in the DNG file.

But not the 2 other levels, lens distortion and vignetting"

Thus, I just convert to DNG and do any lens distortion and vignetting correction in Photoshop.

Flexcolor is just not an option.

Do other users agree?

I think I would use the three level DAC in Flexcolor on the 28mm lens for sure. However on the longer lenses, it may not matter. I just reviewed the Phocus link. It looks like Lightroom. Pretty good, if it works although I did not see where it catalogs images as well as Lightroom. But the tool is close enough so that it may be one more tool that is easy to use and worthwhile.

We will see.

I have been a fan of Flexcolor and have developed (what I think) are some pretty innovative ways to use it, to the point I can say Flexcolor sings. What I've found with most who use Flexcolor is that the 1996 UI is a show stopper. But there are ways around that. There are numerous little un-documentd workflows in Flexcolor that can be utilized.

However, this may be a moot point with Phocus right around the corner. The Phocus UI will eliminate the interface complaints, and there are many new ways of working within Phocus that should salve the Flexcolor-wounded!
