Pro Shade Masks ?

Are the masks ( 120-135-150, 250) that can be mounted to the Pro Shade essential or simply adding an extra amount of protection from flare?
 
With strong lighting, mask is really needed.
BTW, as I use CFV (36x48mm sensor) so I changed my shades:
The 80mm one on my 60mm and 100mm on the 80mm.
The 38-60mm shade for 60mm is really ....light !
 
Proshades should always be used with the mask that was designed for the focal length it is marked with.

Please note there are two different masks for 250 lenses.

The one used with the later 6093 Proshade has a smaller opening.
