Play between back and body

On my Hasselblad SWC, the cassette has a small play at the bottom with the body, less than a mm. does this affect the recordings
I've made a little movie (mp4) but can's attach it in ths thead.

Can you take a picture of the gap and attach here. There should be no play or movement whatsoever between the body and the back when it's attached, otherwise you'll have light leakage. Is this the case with all of your film backs or just one particular back? Also, when you wind on after taking a shot do you notice any movement between the film back and the body?

There is 1mm play with the back and the body at the bottom near the hooks that hold the back. If I fit the bottom of the body and the back I can slide 1mm sideways back and forth. I shot a 120 film but saw no light leakage. Hardly visible in the photos, but you hear a small tapping sound when you move them relative to each other.

Ok, thats a little more clear. Have you tried fitting different backs to the unit, and do you observe the same amount of play? There shouldn't be any play between the body and the back. I have a SWC which I can compare with, however I'm on the road, and won't be home for about 3 weeks. Perhaps somebody else on the boards can do a comparison.

I've had an opportunity to check out my SWC and I can confirm that there is a very small amount of play - just like you have described - between the back and body. It's not something I've ever noticed before, and I've never had any issues with light leakage when shooting on this camera. This may perhaps be normal, and if its the same with all backs and there are not light leakages, then it's probably nothing to worry about. If you're really concerned have it looked over by a Hblad repair specialist.

David Odess, an avid US Hasselblad repairs man, always said: "use you thumb to protect the feet"! Meaning to carefully attach the filmback on the body by switching the lock button on the top (=thumb) before engaging in the hooks on the bottom (=feet). Thus just not to slap the back on the body because this will disrupt the two hooks!
This is the cause of your 'problem' which isn't really a problem as long there is no light leak...
