PCP80 magazine lock knob stuck

I recently acquired a used PCP80 slide projector, but the magazine lock knob seems to be stuck and I cannot mount a slide tray on the projector. Does anyone know of any possible reasons for this. I couldn't glean anything obvious from the manual. I was going to attempt to take it apart myself, but thought I'd ask the question first, just in case anyone has encountered this situation and there might be an easy solution.

I don't know about that model of slide projector but I did once dismantle a 35mm one myself years ago and I couldn't get it back to together again and had to write it off! I replaced it with a Leica. Food for thought and hesitation maybe?
