not getting film advance...

Howdy all...

I have a 500c, 220 back. Dad left it to me when he died, and I am trying to learn how to use it.

I finding that the film isnt always advancing as I wind the camera. On some attempts, the red dot on the back stays red as if its not moving at all, and on some attempts it moves to a tweener state, between red and white. At that point it stops, and doesnt complete the move to white. The camera itself appears to be advancing properly.

It feels 'draggy' when there is film in it, but I have no frame of reference-ie., I would expect a bit more drag as compared to empty.

Any comments?

I have a 120 back as well, and am planning on getting some film for it... wait, I think I have one roll of tri-x.

I am in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

The stuff Dad left me...

500c
500cm
Two Hassy prism viewfinders
120 back
220 back
50mm Distagon
80mm
150mm Sonnar
250mm Sonnar
Weston Master II (mint condition)

Dad mostly did b&w, and home processing. I hope to be able to put all this to use...

I am finding now that if I advance very slowly, it seems to do better.

As it goes around, I feel a click mid-way. Is it typically smooth the entire revolution, or should there be any clicks mid-way? Its smooth the whole way round when there is no film in it... (220 BACK)

thanks...

I suppose you do not have a manual for the 500C and the 500CM cameras.

You can download one from www.hasselblad.se
First register and use the 501C as model fill in the number of your 500CM.

After that downloads are available for the 500 CM manual.

Try to take a picture of the gear you have and upload that here.
Use the paperclip in the toolbar to upload.

If you have any problems or questions just drop them here.

If you have two backs and two bodies you can try different combinations and find out if a back or a body is faulty. I am in the UK, so I will not be passing by your way anytime soon!

I tried that hassy download, the site is acting up... I do have a manual from another source, I thought I would download the manual from that site and compare.

I have tried the back switch, and havent come to any conclusions yet. I am not sure whats going... I will keep playing...

I have the 220 back on the cm, and it appears to be functioning more reliably. Now to understand what the issue might be with the c..

Ok, so now I have the 120 back on the 500c and its not working well either. Tells me that the body isnt functioning properly...

Now to find a split image finder for the CM. I have one for the C, but not the CM. What a difference they make...
