New to Me: 500mm C Tele-Tessar.

Hi All,

After years of searching, I have finally found a nice 500mm F8 C Tele-Tessar in black finish. This completes my Hasselblad lens collection, I now have the complete set, all approximately the same vintage.

The serial number on this lens is 4242215, can anybody help me date it? The shutter is good (very snappy) glass excellent, no issues at all.

This is the third one I have purchased, the first two had problems, and went back to the dealer. This one is a -keeper-.

Shown with the hood, filter, Hasselblad Gunstock, and Release Adapter. Hope to get out this weekend and use it, if it isn't storming and raining.

Nice purchase, you must be pleased to complete your collection.

What type of photography are you proposing to use it for?

I've had this one's matching sister, the 350mm F5.6 Tele-Tessar for years now, it's one of my favorite lenses. I use it most often handheld. Occasionally I wish I had even more "telephoto reach" and this lens offers just a bit more. Probably not handholdable, though. I have all kinds of tripods in my studio.

The Gunstock is an interesting addition to my collection. Looking forward to trying it out. Perhaps I should take a trip to the local zoo, for testing purposes.

Should be great for tight wildlife shots, like in the old Hasselblad brochures.

The 500 can be used handheld although it will probably mean a struggle for light to keep shutterspeeds high and aperture closed a couple of stops.
The gunstock is a welcome help for this purpose.

Shooting handheld means you have to be fit and control your breath.
I suppose the 350 gave you an idea of what is needed.

Good luck getting that thing through airport security.

You know that is a good point. Have many of us have had trouble getting photo equipment through airport security?

Some of the lenses can be a bit large and scary looking, I guess to people not familar with the stuff.
