Hi Everyone, New here and wanted to say hi. Hasselblad is step up for me. Currently shoot a Lieca MP and a Nikon D70. I'm a classic "old dog" trying to learn some new tricks. I have an 503cw and want to get some lenses. I've been offered an cb80 and a cb160 at a very good price. They are as new-perfect. How do they compare to the "normal' Planar and Tessar??Thanks in advance fo any info. Allan

CB lenses are not bad although the Tessar is the lesser of them.
The 80 mm CB is recommendable if you think the price is right.
Why not get a nice 150 CF Sonnar instead of the 160 CB Tessar lens?

I certainly have to echo Paul's remarks.
Here's my opinion -
While, ultimately, every component in your camera bag contributes to the final image produced by your camera, none are as important as the lens. THAT'S where your money should go. Buy a lesser body if necessary, buy less equipment if necessary, but don't skimp on the lenses. Pay the extra few bucks for the better lenses. You won't regret it.

Not all CB lenses were in the optical sense less good than their more expensive CF counterparts.
The 120 CB, only sold in Asia I believe, used the same glass and the same optical formula as the CFE or CFi versions.
The 60 CB and the 80 CB deliver about the same IQ as the CFi 60 and CFE 80.
The only disappointing one is the 160 Tessar.
The Tessar has only 4 elements as against the five element design of the Sonnar.
The attempt to market less expensive lenses failed not only on the perception that their IQ would be less good.
CB lenses were only about 10% less expensive which made many buyers decide to go for the CFE or CFi versions.

Thank you both for your infomative replies. Because the CB 80 is so close I decided to purchase that. When I let the seller (Friend) know he sold me both for the price he originally wanted for just the 80. They are virtually new. The 80 was used 2-3 times, the 160 not at all. He also has a 40mmCF that i'll probably get also. This is all very fortunate given the current economy. Thanks again. Allan
