mounting flash

Here a potentially stupid question.
What is the best way of mounting a flash? If not using a prism and if i want to use both hand hold and with tripod?
The normal L-grips look like blocking the release button so they seem only for hand held operation because one cant mount a cable release.
I got one L shaped bracket that works fine with a tripod but its a little too flimsy for hand held operation.

For years with a Bronica EC, I had used a Vivitar PG-1 grip that had a MF base on it with a Vivitar 283 flash. The handle has a hole where a cable release can be mounted through and used as the shutter trigger. Very rugged and can be mounted to a tripod. If I ever decide to use a flash with my Hasselblad I'll probably pull this out of the closet.

As these are pretty old, ebay or used camera outlets would be the source. You may be able to find something newer that does the same.

I have something a Stroboframe Quick Flip 350 Flash Bracket which works well for my Hasselblads. I obviously do not need the flip feature for the Hasselblads, but I use it with my Nikon SLRs to move the strobe further away from the lens.

hey,

i mount my flash using an old hama-flashgrip.
it has a little hole that perfectly holds my trigger cable.
