Lens choice

Perfect timing Jurgen! I just discovered the answer to how Crewdson gets the Hyper Real look in his work ... and it is ... Ta Da! ... 8X10 view camera employing tilts and shifts.

However, you have to admit that dragging an 8X10 everywhere can also be considered a bit "complicated" : -)

Also, if you have a minute, check that link I provided concerning the use of layers with the
PSCS3 "auto align layers" merging function. Apparently the frames don't have to exactly match. What I think is the fly in the ointment has to be movement one frame to the next ... unless there is a masking function used also. But for static work it's interesting.

Interesting. Where did you read that? I'd like to catch up and inform the other forum members discussing all this.

Marc it is a french blog --> http://lunettesrouges.blog.lemonde.fr/lunettesrouges/2006/08/gregory_crewdso.html

and here jeff wall --> http://lunettesrouges.blog.lemonde.fr/lunettesrouges/2005/12/jeff_wall.html

I just noticed this thread. There is a great article in the July issue of PDN about Greg Crewdson's work, along with an interview. He goes to great length with an 8x10 to get every part of the image in focus, foreground to background. He does this by compositing numerous shots with different parts of the frame tack sharp. It helps to have a 6-figure budget and a crew of dozens for each photograph (yes, you heard right)!
