If you want a CFV-39 or any other V system compatible digital back you need.....

....it would be great to list (for purposes if less informed people) what the minimum requirements would be for V system owners who wish to get a digital back......it would be great to have this as the go-to thread for this information....

for example, if you want to get a CFV-39 you will need what.....a 201F over a 500C/M body and if so why? what lenses are recommended.....

...........thats the info we're all looking for....list adapters and cables and any extras you will need so nobody gets a surprise if they buy anything 2nd hand.....for example, i keep reading about the spare batteries for the CFV-39.....

I hope this is a good idea for a thread.....Polypal an our Hasselblad man Paul Glaesson will surely be very helpful here.....

Minimum requirements for CFV DBs

That is an easy question to answer:

Any camera from the V series in good condition will do.
Be it the first 500C from 1957 or the last 503CW all cameras are simply clip and go.
Take the CFV from the box, clip it behind the camera and of you go.
The 201F can only be used with C/CF/CFE/CFi lenses with a CFV back.
Camera and lenses should be set to be operated with the leaf shutter.

Only exception are the 202FA, 203FE, 205TCC and 205FCC.
These cameras need to be modified to be able to use them with F/FE lenses and a CFV.

System requirements are a different cup of tea.
A large CPU with a powerful graphic card are a good start.
To store quantities of large files you also need external drives.
Several Terabyte are a minimum.

BTW are the battery and loader included or not ?
And what is the max size CF-card you can use (for how many pictures of 39Mpix).
BTW, is it possible to process (on request) raw file in JPG as my Kodak pro back does ?

Battery and charger depends on where you buy the CFV:
In the US the CFV comes with battery and charger.
In Europe you have to get those from your supplier they are not included in the CFV price.

Files from the CFV are in RAW.
JPEG is not an option as far as I know.

The 201F can only be used with C/CF/CFE/CFi lenses with a CFV back. Camera and lenses should be set to be operated with the leaf shutter.

explain this modification please my friend......

200 series cameras with light measuring systems also have 4 contacts at the rear side where the film back is fitted.
E or TCC backs have contacts to transmit the film sensitivity to the camera.

These contacts are being used to control the CFV back making use of the FE series lenses possible with CFV backs
This is only possible after the 200 series body has been modified.
After modification the ISO setting by the film back is no longer possible.

The 201F does not have the contacts and can therefore not be modified.

202fa 203fe 205tcc/fcc modification

The 202FA , 203FE and 205TCC/FCC cameras need a modification to syncronize the focal plane shutter with the CFV back . It is an electric/electronic modification in the camera body .
This modification is only required , if you want to use F/FE type lenses .
No sync flash cable is required .

The 201F can not be modified .

Have a look to the connectivity diagram , page 3 for details .

Paul gave a great answer to the question of system compatibility.

As to the question of modification, I can add the following:

This modification is performed by Hasselblad. In the US, the cost is $440 and the camera returns in a week.

The only visual change is a "modified for digital" sticker on the side of the camera.

As others may have said, the only operational change is that the camera can no longer electronically detect the ISO setting of the back. Both back and camera's ISO must be set manually and independently.

For this (minor?) inconvenience, you gain the ability to sync the back with the focal plane shutter above its flash sync speed of 1/90th of a second (ie you can shoot at any shutter speed with the focal plane shutter) without a sync cable.

Update: It is worth noting that with the CFV-39, even modified 200-series cameras still require a sync cable when shooting C/CF/CFi/CFE lenses using the lens' central shutter. All "F"-capable lenses (CF/CFi/CFE/F/FE) will work with the modified 200-series cameras without a sync cable when using the camera's focal-plane shutter.

It means guessing where the limits of the frame are.
I have done that many times when using a 6x4.5 film back without a mask.
Never had problems but leaving out part of the top and bottom section is easier
than guessing where the image ends to both right and left side.......
