How to date Carl Zeiss Lenses

Hi,

Is there a way to date Carl Zeiss Lenses that do not have any date codes stamped in red on the rear lens baffle?

I have recently accquired an FE 50mm Lens of the newer design (0.42m close focus) and I wanted to find the date it was made but there are no date codes visible.

Regards

Kevin

You are a lucky guy. This week the forum is only open for new members who are the lucky owner of an E12 Millenium film back!

Welcome at this forum and keep posting.
Questions and answers both are needed to keep this forum going.

Thanks Paul, I am hoping the E12 Millenium back will arrive today - an E16 Millenium back would be nice to match!

I also bought the 80mm FE. The optics look fine, the databus contacts work but the focusing ring feels like a wheel with a blown out tyre. It works but with a slack and rough feel to it.

Looks like I will be sending the 80mm over to you!

Hello Kevin,

The E16 is quite a rare beast. I have not seen one yet.

Congratulations on the 80 FE. It sounds like a bargain.

Hi Paul,

I have received the E12 Millennium Back this morning - a real beauty.

Did Hasselbad ever sell these Millennium backs individually or was this just separated from a Millennium 203FE Kit?

Thanks for packaging this back so well.

Kevin

Millenium backs

As far as I know millenium backs were part of a camera kit consisting of a body, an 80 mm lens and a film back.

I have not seen film backs listed seperately.
