Hasselblad Telephoto Lenses

I was looking at a recently accquired Hasselblad catalogue and associated price list from 2004 and I could not believe that the Tele-Tessar FE 350mm F4.0 Lens was more expensive (£5,745.75) than the Tele-Superachromat CFE 350mm F5.6 (£5,493.13) with it rare and special optical glass elements.

Does anybody know if special optical glass was used in the FE 350mm and what the quality difference is between these 2 lenses? I was just suprised by the original price of the FE 350mm.

On the Nikon Home Website they have produced a mini site called 'NIKKOR — The Thousand and One Nights' that has the story behind individual classic lenses including the design considerations and the journey to producing the lenses. These stories often recall the original lens designers thoughts on the challenges they faced to create the final desired result.

I think it would be great if Carl Zeiss created something similiar on their website or even a book that described the story for the Hasselblad lens range.

There is quite a lot information available from Carl Zeiss about older lens designs.

Carl Zeiss has a museum that also holds the archives.
This museum and the archives are available for any questions about design and production.
Museum staff is eager to answer any questions as far as that knowledge is availble.
