CFV Battery, any recommendations ?

Hi,

My wife is the proud owner of a CFV back now. I'm wondering if you have any
recommendations on which batteries and charger to use for the CFV.

I would also like to know from your experience how many shots can be
taken with the CFV using a full charged battery ? A rough estimate would
be sufficient.

The battery that came with the back is a Li-Ion 7.4V 2000mAh

Best Regards,
Ralf

My CFV came without batteries and charger . Great .
My dealer recommended UNOMAT 7,4V/2000mAh . Analog SONY NP-F530 , F550 .
One of the charging pins in the UNOMAT CHARGER broke off after a very short period of time .
So I got two no name chargers and also two no name additional batteries .
7,4V/2400mAh for replacememnt of F550 for a decent price .
The UNOMAT batteries are very good and the no name ones loose their capacity faster .
I think it is difficult to say , how many shots you can take with one battery , because this also depends on how long you have powered on your back , without doing any shot .
Therefore I like to recommend to have at least one extra battery with you .
When I do a shooting away from home , I always have my four batteries , fully charged , with me .

I bought a battery from Radio Shack for about $59 US. It works fine, but I've never counted the shots per charge. It charges in the original charger that came with the back. (Note - to be sure I bought the correct battery, I took the original Sony battery with me to Radio Shack, and they were able to match it up immediately).

Hi Jürgen,

It seems the UNOMAT batteries are no longer available (at least according
to the dealer you referred to). I ordered four new batteries plus charger, the
new batteries have slightly more power (2400mAh).
I will update you on how they perform compared to the one UNOMAT we have.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the info, that came just in time before our departure to Scotland next week :z04_carrot:

I ordered two from Duracell Europe. They weren't expensive.

One seems to loose it's charge very quickly, so fast that there might be a connection problem If only I could find it.....

Also have a Radio Shack battery that Marc W provided and it's reliable, but doesn't have the capacity of the Duracells.

I'd suggest that three batteries is a good start.

Hi,

I just knew if the CFV package not included the battery and the charger, so we have to find battery with voltage 7.4v Li on 2000 mAh, can i used 7.4 v li-on with 2380 mAh. thanks for the info

I highly recommend this set up:

Sony AC-V700 AC Adapter/Charger, (provides status of charge in progress and the display can be toggled between "Normal" ready to use ... which takes about 1 Hr/15 minutes, or "Full" for complete capacity ... which takes about 2 Hrs/15 minutes).

Sony NP-F570 InfoLithium L Batteries. I do not like the higher capacity, deeper Sony L batteries as they hang off the back to much.

Sony DK-415 AC plug-in battery shell for the AC-700 Adapter/Charger (provides extended uninterrupted shooting in studio, or where ever AC power is available).

While Marc's suggestion of the Sony charger will probably get you the best device for the job, it's expensive and quite big. I'm using a Hahnel Ultima 2 charger that is much smaller and can accept a 12v car input too. The only problem is that these cheaper chargers are not as well made and reliable.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for sharing the info, very useful information.

Would be interesting to know how many miles i have to drive for
a full charge using the DC car plug :z04_9856:

That set up also has a DC car plug ... but mine's in the car.

Thanks for the recommendation Marc. It looks like the Sony AC-V700A has been discontinued. I think the Sony ACVQ-1050D dual charger/AC adapter/car adapter etc may be the replacement model.

The list price is $169.....available from Amazon for $97. I just ordered one.

That is a better one anyway. It takes two batteries.
