Autumn Images

Hi guys. Just got back from my first Autumn photographing excursion today. I went to West Virginia, where Autumn is starting to look pretty good now. I presume that those of you in the UK and Europe are long past your color peaks by now, but ours in the Southern Appalachians is just beginning. Here's the first image I processed this evening, and the specific image I traveled to WV to shoot. It's the Glade Creek Grist Mill, located in Babcock State Park, in southern West Virginia, near Beckley.
It was a fantastic weekend for me, and for once in the past couple of years, I was actually able to use other lenses than my 40 CF FLE for a change. My 60, 100, and 180 got a good workout.
Specs on this image - 501 CM, 100mm/3.5 Planar w/93 polarizer. CFV back @ ISO 100. 1/4 sec @ f8.

Absolutely breathtaking Michael. I have been wanting to get up to WV just for this shot for quite some years but haven't so far. Have a friend in Houston who catches a plane each year to get close enough to drive down to shoot in this location. Thanks for posting this beautful image.

Wow Michael, that is a beautiful image and scene. I'd love to see a higher resolution version. Do you do any printing? Any interest in participating in an inkjet color print exchange? I coordinate a bi-monthly exchange and the next one is scheduled for November. I still have a few slots open. Letter size prints, limited to 12 participants. Mostly US based, but also some regular participants from Norway, the UK and India.

Just gorgeous, the colours and composition are excellent. We don't have an autumn here on the subtropical NSW north coast and I really miss it.

If you use google map with : "grist mill babcock state park" as search argument , you will find 100s of similar images , but MICHAELs image is outstanding . Obsolutely .

Ah, Indian summer at its best. I once had the opportunity to visit New England at the right time of year (one has to carefully plan one's business trips ;-) and it was stunning! I did not yet have a Blad in those days :-(

Thanks to all who took the time to comment on my image. After years of coveting this image, I am so glad that it now resides in my port folio. Jurgen is right in that you will find 100's of images in a google search. It graces the covers of magazines and calendars each year, and draws photographers from all over. The park ranger told me that every single moment during any day the park is open there is always someone with a camera aimed at the mill.

Tom - you asked where the mill is located in WV. I cannot get much closer than what I stated in my original post, but here goes - Babcock State Park, Fayette County, SR 41. This is located in Southern West Virginia, northeast of the town of Beckley. Refer to a Road Atlas or Map Quest.

And thanks to the poster just previous for his/her autumn image of Maine (Acadia National Park maybe?), and to Macmx for posting. I was hoping that many more of you might post your autumn images here from this year. Even those of you "down under" might have some from your last Autumn, as you're now approaching summer.
Let's see some.
