503CW Still Available?

As far as I know the kit is still available. I certainly hope discontinuing the 503CW is not part of the news everybody is expecting next month!

Calumet is not very active selling Hasselblads these days.

I recommend Pro Centre in London:

5-6 Mallow Street London EC1Y 8RS Tel 020 7490 3122. Fax 020 7490 1292. E-Mail The Pro Centre

Pro Centre is a Hasselblad owned retail shop in the UK.

Dale Photographic in Leeds have provided me with very good service on new and used Hasselblad kit. They still list the 503.

John

Just checked the kurlandphoto.com website in NY and they still have listed the 503CWD kit with CWD II back and the 40mm IF lens new at $12,995. Hope that this is helpful.

UK suppliers

Thanks everyone for you help. Calumut and Robert White, do not appear to now sell full ("starter") kits (ie, 503cw + A12 film back and std. 80mm lens).

The only UK supplier I have seen are Dale Photographic who offer a kit form... as John mentions.

I will contact the Pro Centre as suggested by Paul.

I feel it is not a good sign that we find it difficult for anyone to locate a Hasselblad dealer selling a 503cw kit. It limits anyone wanting to buy from new what perhaps will be the last of the V-System.

regards, Paul

Paul,

Have you considered acquiring one through an auction site such as ebay? It may be used, but from a reputable seller that has a return policy, you may be able to get a good kit for less money than what a new one would go for. This is what I did recently and I'm quite pleased with the camera I got.

Edit: I found a 503CW kit from the seller I purchased my kit from. He actually has several. He does ship worldwide. If you'd like I could PM the ebay link to you.

Mark.......

Hi Mark,

I has considered locating a 503CW thru ebay can you send me the link to a reputable dealer.

Though I was considering buying from new in order to have what appears to be one of the last available v-system cameras.

Thanks for your help,

Paul

With some effort it is relatively easy to find dealers in the UK that offer a good selection of used 503CW bodies and recent 80 mm lenses.
Film backs are not a problem either.
If you are interested to find out who is selling new gear in your area all you have to do is contact Hasselblad UK, they are located in Elstree.

Quite a number of well known older dealers stopped selling Hasselblad cameras.
This was caused by larger investments in H series digital as well as extra expertise needed to sell MF digital gear.
Pro Centre sells both new and used Hasselblad equipment.
Buying second hand from them gives you security and a decent warranty.

Sales of new 503 kit must now be very small. I am surprised really that Hasselblad still lists them, after all the market for MF film cameras was never huge and the pros have pretty much all switched now to the H-system kit. Then there is the price - a 503 CW body, film back, 80mm Planar, lens hood and UV filter (your basic kit) if purchased separately will be close to £5,000 GBP all told. It is still a lovely system, of course.

The amount of gear offered in Europe (EU) does not make it sensible to buy in the US unless it concerns rare items.
Importing gear from the US will mean an extra 25% needs to be paid for duty and VAT.

A used 503CW with standard lens and film back is in good supply in Europe

Thank you. Entirely appropriate.

Contacted Pro Centre today and they say that Hasselblad no longer sell the kit form, but the body and A12 magazine are still being produced. It appears the 80mm lense is no longer offered or indeed available.

Also, found that Dale Photogrpahic, also just offer the body and back (ie minus the lense).

So it appears that the standard kit is now no longer available. :-(

Dale can do the body and magazine, and Ffordes of Scotland list the 80mm CFE Planar as being in stock. So you could still do it.
