40 or 50

Mark

I had a look at cameraquest and the price is 400$ plus 75$ shipment plus 3.5 % customs plus 16% VAT.
Very , very expensive .
That viewer is obviously not available as 6x6 MF viewer in europe .
Whats the focal length of the front lens of your viewer ???
I might get that one then and make an own MF mask .

Jurgen,

From what I remember the front lens is 15 mm.; but I cannot verify this as I just arrived at work and don't have the camera with me. Mark may be able to verify the info. for you if you need an answer pronto.

It is more than likely that you will not need to mask the finder -- I didn't. The front lens group is necessary to both complete the base finder (useless without the front attachment(s)) and match/approximate(?) the AOV of the 38. I use the whole finder view to compose; there are also hatched lines that match the form factor of 35 mm. film. (On that note, for someone that also has a Leica M and lenses that match this and the other front attachment focal lengths, the finder would actually be quite economical -- definitely sharper and brighter than the Leica finders I have used (21 and 28.)

Jürgen:

If you can change the mask then I might suggest the Contax G 21mm viewfinder to test with. It is circular and larger than you need, so if you replace the mask with one for the correct AOV you could be in business.

One of the periodicals highly touted the new ZI 21mm finder as being the best. It lists for $491 USD.

Good Luck:

I have the finder , which comes with the SWC905 . But that is not an angle finder . But you need an angle finder , if you want to use your SWC in a " waist level finder way" , and that is what i want .
As far as i can see , all angle finders , except the VOIGTLANDER , must be attached to an existing viewer on your camera (ZEISS IKON , LEICA or CONTAX etc.)
The VOIGTLANDER finder was also available here in Germany , but i missed it .

So i will have to go the expensive way , to get it from Stephen at CAMERAQUEST .

Marc , you seem to have some experience with that viewer . Can you please give some more details ? ? ?
Would be nice .

Thanks

Jürgen,

The finder is still available in Germany.
Brenner, for instance, has it listed in their Foto Zeitung (art.nr 660376 + 660377).

It's not cheap though (never was): € 249,- + € 99 for the 15 mm optics. (For non-Euronians among us: that's about US$ 420,-, complete)

Q.G.

I know it is available at BRENNER and also at FOTOPARTNER in Hamburg . (same price at both dealers) . But that is the 35mm version , and nowbody could tell me , if i could make my own mask for 6x6 , and if so , how . A phone call with Voigtlander today , shows , that the 6x6 version was available , but is sold out and there will be no chance , to get one any more .

As nobody can tell me , if and how i can make a 6x6 mask for the 35mm version , i will not take the risk to spend money and not get what i want .

Any suggestion to this will be very welcome .

Jürgen,

So it is. I do apologize!

I should have payed more attention to the rest of this thread too. Sorry!

Q.G.

Can you please tell what you mean by this ? ? ?

If no one trusts me here , i could also leave this forum . True ? ? ?

50mm CF FLE or 40mm CF FLE? 80mm CF or 100mm CF

I forgot to mention: I don't think I would recommend buying a C 40mm.

For the 40mm the difference between a (in my humble view..) unwieldy C and the much easier to handle CF tipped the scale and made me go for the CF. Presumably image quality should also be a lot better with the CF, but I cannot speak from experience as I never owned a C.

Price obviously is higher for the CF. :-(

An amateur starting general landscape / street / building / people photography in Hong Kong

What do you recommend 50mm CF FLE or 40 CF FLE?
(weight for 50mm CF FLE _________g? 40mm CF FLE_________g?)

and for a general purpose len - 80mm 2.8f CF or 100mm 3.5f CF.

What are the best combination?

Thanks

I recommend, because this is what I got
38mm [903 SWC] 50mm 80mm 150mm 250mm

I also recommend
38mm or 40mm When you have the money plus
50mm 100mm 150mm or 180mm 250mm

I find I tend to use the lenses from most to least
80mm
50mm
38mm SWC
250mm
150mm

The 150mm tends on only get used if the cropping of the subject is close to what I want.
