So the 500 C/M synchs at all speeds up to 1/500 so why does my 2000 FC/M synch ONLY to 1/90.....seems pointless to me...give me a scenario where this makes sense if you, eg want to balance fill a model against the sun with an ambient background at f8 1/500sec
For 500 the shutter is in the lens. So the distance covered is small.
For the 2000 the distance is 56mm twice 24mm. So it mean a synchro speed of 1/180 sec if it was 24x36mm. This was not easy in 1978 for 24x36mm bodies.
1/90 is not bad at all. However time to times, I need faster speed for flash. With a 110mm is't just the limit with 1/90 sec. So I sold my FE 150mm today and use a CFE 180mm for FE use and speedy flash use in C mode.
If you compare, the new Leica M7 use 1/50, the digital M9 1/180 and some MF use 1/30 !
Anyway, I think it's now possible to build a central shutter for the 110mm 2.0

My ~ 1976 Pentax MX-en with horizontal cloth shutter do 1/60 for flash sync. It's brother ME body with metal vertical shutter does 1/100 for flash sync.
So 1/90 for the big hulking (in comparison..) HB shutter is definitely not bad.
The beauty of the focal plane shutter cameras was the ability to use fast lenses without built in shutters and the legacy leaf shutters for high sync speeds. As previous posters have said 1/90th is fast for that large of a shutter to sync at.
