Hi Cyril,

the Coolscan 5000 will not scan the entire XPan negatives or slides but you might get around it by scanning two half images and stitch them together. You have to be careful regarding a consistant exposure for both scans.

I don't know the Coolscan 5000 but here is a description on how to scan and stitch XPan slides using a Canon FS4000US.

This article suggests that it should work for the 5000 ED as well.

Oh and I just forgot: when I am to lazy to use the Canon FS4000 I scan my XPan slides with a Epson V700 - up to 12 slides in one pass (which I have never tried, I only scan two slides at once). Unfortunately the effective scan resolution is "only" good on the Epson (2000-2300 dpi) but excellent on your Coolscan 5000 (3600dpi).

But then again it depends what size you would like to print.

Thanks for the reply!

Thanks guys for your kind advices and your time. I'll try to show some photos as soon as I get in there and when they are ready.
regards
Cyril
