Which Metz 54MZ-4

Since so many members of this forum have praised the Metz 54MZ, I ordered a SCA Module 3902 from B&H. Although Metz has apparently discontinued the 54MZ, I'm going to have to find a new or used unit from a dealer. The 54MZ is sold for use on a Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and even a single contact for use on any flash in manual. My question is does it matter which one I order as long as I use it with the SCA 3902 Module on my H4D-40?

I know about the hammer-heads but don't want to use them. Will use 54MZ mostly for fill or occasionally a small group where the on-board flashette built into the body of the H isn't strong enough. Will any of the 54MZ's work with the 3902 Module? This is the question i need answered. Phil

Metz 54MZ-r

I have this set-up (Metz 54MZ-4 and 3902 module) and and it works nicely. As long as you have a 3902 module, you are good to go with either the 54MZ-3 or 54MZ-4. There is the newest version 54MZ-4i. You just have to replace the existing base with that of the 3902 module and you will have TTL connectivity to your H4D-40. Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks for your advice

I have searched the web looking for Metz 54MZ-3 or 4. Some can be found on eBay. Most of the regular outlets list the model as discontinued. I have ordered the 3902 from Hasselblad (B&H) and a couple of the used units. The ones I ordered are the standard foot model and I can use them on other cameras in "A" mode or "M." Thanks for your help. Phil
