V System Optical Viewing Options

One of the great benefits of moving from 35mm SLRs to the V system is the wonderful optical viewing system and the options to customise to suit your personal style.

I was starting to find it a strain looking through the viewfinder window using my Leica or Nikon SLRs and I found it easier to use my digital compact camera screen.

My first experience of the V system was a wonderfully bright and clear screen using the WLF with no hint of any strain I felt with my 35mm SLRs. The results showed me some improvement in technique for both focussing and composing (getting the horizons straight) was required.

Looking at the options available I have now customised my system to include the following items:-
  • PME45 Prism. This helps my horizontal composition as I now keep the camera parallel to the subject and I don't get 'confused' with left to right movements. The additional benefits of steadiness (I can keep the camera very still with the Prism pushed against my eye socket / head) and the camera exposure data clearly visible are a great convenience.
  • Grid screen with split image. The gridlines are fantastic for both horizontal and vertical alignment of the subject and fine tuning the focus with the split image.
Although I have sacrificed some of the compactness and lighter weight of the WLF by using a prism finder I think the end results will be worth it. I have also created a system of operation that is virtually the same as my MF 35mm SLRs so it is very familiar but without the strain I mentioned earlier.

I will report back on my experience of the new gear in practice and back this up with some results / posted images. :z04_photos:

Kevin,

The V systems offers options to customise for what ever needs you have:
Viewfinders, film backs with recently a great addition for those who prefer digital capture and a large selection of lenses including two for UV light.

Without doubt the V series is the most versatile MF camera system ever.

Relevant to this i wanted to know which is the brightest viewing screen combination for my 500C/M Hasselblad...at the moment I have a Sports Prism and a split screen grid screen.....Ive heard of Beattie screens etc.....anyone have any views.....thanks!

Without proper identification of the screen you have now it is hard to say what will be an improvement.
There are three split screens in the older series focusing screens and even more in the Acute Matte series.

If you like a split I suppose the 42217 is the screen to go for:
AM D generation, with grid and split.
