Tripod Head Advice

Looking for a new tripod head to suit a H4D, most of my work is landscapes or macro (plants etc). I've been looking at the Arca Swiss Z1 ball head & a Manfrotto geared head 410 Junior & 405 Pro.

Any advice will be most welcome, dont want to make the mistake of buying the wrong head.

I have a plain Manfrotto ballhead on a Slik tripod. Works like a charm with my 501CM plus 40mm up to 250mm lenses.

I use a geared Manfrotto 410 head on my large and heavy Manfrotto 058 tripod (review here) but have also used it on my CF Gitzo 2530 lve and it is great on both.

I have known many people who have bought the 410 and don't know any who have regretted it.

Not sure if still relevant, but I bought an Acratech GP-2 a couple of years ago, and still using this with great pleasure and good results. Have a look at their website if interested for more details.

Manfrotto 488 to be exact. As of last Friday it sits on top of a Manfrotto 055XDB tripod. I retain the Slik tripod as that is smaller & lighter, so easier in case of luggage restrictions.

A couple of caveats first: 1) I've never seen an H4D, so I don't know how big it is compared with my 553ELX, 501CM or 503CWD and 2) over the years, I've come to prefer pan tilt heads for my heavier cameras.

The head I use for all of my Hasselblad cameras is the Gitzo G2270M, usually mounted on a Gitzo 3 series (or eqiv) aluminum or carbon fiber tripod. I generally have the Hasselblad 45144 quick release platform afixed to the 2270M head.

If you prefer a ball head....then my favorite (of those I currently own) is the RRS BH-55.

I would like to try the largest Manfrotto geared head.....I just haven't acquired one yet.
