Telephoto Power Pack

I am beginning to regret selling my CFE 350/5.6 SA. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Zeiss Telephoto Power Pack and APO Mutar?

What are the prices like (very, very high I imagine)?

Any help/experience or notes on this lens is most welcome. Thanks!

Mc

Just to be clear, I know nothing of this lens. So please don't be too surprised, when I am asking the price and it is ridiculously high, because I really have no idea. However, I am guessing 15,000 - 20,000 USD from new??

Camera West in California had a used one a few months ago. I believe they wanted $18,000 for it. It appeared to be in nice condition.

The problem is finding one.

Photo Arsenal is offering a new one for $36K usd. A bit steep, methinks... I have seen them
offered for $18-25k usd on occasion, used, in mint condition with case and 1.7x tc. There may or may not be bargaining room in those prices, but likely not too much, as the lenses are hard to find.

There were only 43 lenses made by Carl Zeiss.
That is one of the reasons these lenses are hard to find.
The are a better investment than gold right now.

I am sure SHP in Nürnberg, Germany, has several of these lenses in stock.
Talk to Mr. Boris Jamchtchik the owner if you want one.

Two comments: WOW and OUCH. This is definitely off my list.

What is SHP? I cannot find it on Google.

Sorry I actually bought the 350SA from "macmx". I also own a 300SA, so I can make some comments here about two lenses.

350SA: Very sharp, much more portable than 300SA, color rendition is very good, built-in leaf shutter works better at 1/30 to 1/8 second than focal plane shutter. 1/30 to 1/8 second shutter speeds are typically considered as the dead zone of focal plane shutter for long lenses.

300SA: Extremely sharp, heavy and bulky, its color rendition is so special that I have never seen any other lenses can compete with it. It's hard to describe it, just very very special.

There are actually about 177 300SA lenses have been manufactured. I know there are totally eight 300SA lenses around my friends, and one friend loves it so much that he bought two.

In fact I never saw a picture of this lens exept in catalogue.
Why not posting a picture of the lens hood and body: a working solution.

Here is a picture of three SA lenses I have: 250SA, 350SA and 300SA.

Wahhh!!! :z04_2171:

Tell him that's really unfair, and in the interest of balancing cosmic karma, sending one to Seattle on "indefinite loan" should be high on his priority list!! :)

I've been finding what you're saying about the 'dead zone' to be very true with MF teles... What shutter speeds have you found are critically sharp with the 300SA? (On both sides of the dead zone??)

Can you post any pictures you have taken with it? It would be very interesting to see what the overall look of the lens is, even if it will surely not show its best in a web image...
