Sad loss of a great lens

Hi, I have a sad story to tell of the loss of a great Hasselblad lens.

I found an S-Planar C 120mm F/5.6 Lens with T* coating in absolutely superb condition with the original plastic case for £225 on evil bay.

I was considering the CFE 120 Makro-Planar as this better integrated with my 203FE but when I read Polypal's experience of the older lens, coupled with the price difference and the fact that I tend to use Macro lenses stopped down anyway it seemed the S-Planar was the correct choice.

However, I received an email tonight from the seller with the news that;

unfortunately I dropped the lens when I was stood at the top of my
stairway, just as I was about to get this ready to pack up for you.
It bounced a few times down the carpet stairs and doesn't look
damaged at all, but now it rattles as if one or more of the elements are
seriously loose and the focus movement is jammed.

So there goes my S-Planar lens!

I am sure other samples of this lens will turn up but I feel sad that such a great lens has ended up as spare parts.

Let us have a few moments of silence in respect......

Kevin

A great way to honor the old is to buy the new. We need to support Hasselblad film cameras and their lenses if want them to be around.

if it had beena Canon it would have bounced cos they're made of plastic these days no? hahahhaha

That truly is a sad tale. Wonder if the seller has plans to have the lens repaired? If macro is your main purpose for the lens, then I too would opt for the older S version, and wait it out.

Reminds me of the time on Tim Allen's "Home Improvement" when the script called for a telephone pole to drop on top of a mint, modified '55 Chevy Nomad (my favorite car). Being a hot rod enthusiast, it sickened me, and I quit watching the show after that.

The sunken feeling in my stomach is similar for each, but more so for the Chevy Nomad since it was intentionally demolished.

I have purchased broken Hasselblad lenses in the past, and then had them repaired. Perhaps you could work out such a deal. I'll bet it could be restored, perhaps not -too- expensively.

If I were you, I would inquire. BTW I have a 120mm f5.6 S-Planar, and I bought it, knowing full well it needs a CLA. David Odess will probably get the job, since he replaces the mainspring and thoroughly checks the blades. Costs a bit more, but it's worth it to me.
