Portrait shots with digital backs

So its a stupid question but i dunno cos i dont have a digital back.....the CFV-39 for example has a rectangular (landscape) sensor.....you what do you have to do to take a shot in portrait format of a person for example.....you have to turn the camera on its side.....thats useless for WLF's right....you would have to use a prism.....???

makes the 16mp square sensor a better bet ergonomically right....oh yes, and the crop factor on the CFV-39 ios what then on for example a Zeiss 50mm, 80mm, 150mm

The early CFV is an excellent tool for portraits.
A 39 Mp back still leaves a little extra when cropped to a square.

its the only back i keep referring back to in my wish to take film and digital back to shoots eventually....I'd love to leave the Nikon behind and just take my Hassy and Zeiss with me.....
What's the CFV 16 going for these days and is it a simple connect and shoot or do you need extras and crap like that to make it work with V system
I have the 500C/M and 2000 FC/M as you know plus 50mm both C and F lens I bought from you, 80mm CF, 150mm C and 250mm C lenses
Plus whats the crop factor on the sensor with these lenses...sorry so many questions

Forget about the 2000 series body and lenses when considering the use of the CFV back.

A 500 series body can be used without any modification.
Mount the the CFV back to the camera, connect the CFV to the PC terminal of the lens and you are ready to shoot.

Faster F/FE lenses can be used with a CFV back provided they are mounted on a modified 200 series body.

Crop factor for the CFV back is 1.6 making the 50 mm WA a standard lens.......

so what lens do people use to get wide angle then????? PllyPal...have you used this back before???

We are still waiting for Carl Zeiss to develop a suitable WA lens.
It is obvious this is not going to happen.
It seems Zeiss and Hasselblad are no longer business partners.

The only moderate WA option is the 40 mm lens which turns into a 64 mm lens compared to full frame.
Not an attractive proposition.

If compared to 4.5x6 the later 39 Mp or 50 Mp digital backs give a 1.1 crop factor.
Better get used to the fact that full frame 56x56 mm sensors will never be made available for Hasselblad cameras.

I can only agree to what Paul says , except one little bug , that is , that the crop factor of the CFV-16/CFV-16 II is 1.5 (not 1.6)
That would "turn" a 100mm lens into a ideal 150mm portrait lens . Yes .

But I would like to point out , that the CFV-16/CFV-16II is what most photographers call a "Fat Pixel" digital back .
The pixel size is 9 microns . That back produces wonderful skin tones and gives the images a wonderful charme . But still the images are very sharp .
This digital back is in my opinion an ideal back for portraits .
I can currently not upload a sample as my computers GC is down and I do not
have a replacement GC yet .

The prices for used CFV-16 backs are between 3500€ and 5000€ , depending on the condition and the number of shots which were taken with that back .

And it is currently the cheapest step into the digital MF world , if you already
own a Hasselblad 500 system .

so what lens do people use to get wide angle then?????

Shoot film, particularly with the 30mm and 40mm Distagon. If and when I find the right deal on a CFV16 back, I will not hesitate to buy it. But I will shoot film, for very wide stuff. Shoot and scan.
