Polarizing filters for 40mm CFE and 50mm CFi

I have Bay 50 and Bay 60 Hasselblad polarizers, and Heliopan 72mm and 77mm circular polarizers. It appears the 50mm CFi is Bay 70, and there are adapters available for both 72mm and 77mm. Is there any problem using these adapters? How about using circular polarizers?

Next question regards 40mm CFE filter size. The lens was purchased 2nd hand and came without instructions. It has a screw-in adapter which appears to have an inside thread of 82mm (which screws into the lens) and an outside thread of 93mm or 94mm. I find 95mm filters, but that's all.
Can someone help with the correct polarizer needed? And who makes it?

One last question: Is there a dedicated lens hood for the 40mm CFE?

Thanks in advance for any assistsance.

I think 72mm on B70 will probably give rise to vignetting. 77mm might work(??).

Circular polarisers are no problem on V-series. The other way around (linear polarisers on camers with autofocus I mean) *are* a problem.

HB used to sell special polarisers for the CF[E]40, not sure if they are still being sold. Expect $$$$. I use a 95mm B+W wide-angle polariser with a conversion ring on my CF40FLE. Search this forum for pictures of that setup.

The 86mm-93mm ring *is* the dedicated hood for the CF[E]40. It doubles as a filter holder for drop-filters. There should be a retaining ring with the lens that fits into the 93mm thread. This ring holds the non-threaded drop-in filters in place.

Although the 40FLE lens has a E86 thread, never attempt to install a E86 filter because the external curvature of the front element extended beyond the filter thread. I have seen people using E86 filter directly and damaged the coating of the front element.

The proper filter for the 40FLE provided by Hasselblad is a threadless 93 filter as shown in middle element at the right-hand side of the attached picture, it is dropped-in and sandwiched between the 93/50 ring and the front rim. The whole element is screwed to the 86 thread of the rim of 40FLE.

The correct polarizer provided by Hasselblad is shown in attached picture at middle front. The polarizer is screwed in the front rim of 40FLE and the polarizer provided a knurle ring for tuning. The right hand sandwich element as shown in picture cannot be used anymore as lens hood when polarizer is used. Instead, the 93 polarized has to be used with the professional lens shade, at rear of the middle column of attached picture, with the hood fully contracted.

Can't find this post.

There's a 93mm to 95mm adapter ring on the auction site. This would allow
use of the 40mm lens shade and 95mm filters. Instead of dangerously close fittings with the 86 to 95 adapters, it would seem a better option.

Does anyone have experience with this set-up? Again, 93mm to 95mm adapter..

Filter adapters

It took a while since I'm in China, but it looks like there are reasonable solutions for fitting polarizers (and other filters) to 40mm and 50mm lenses.

Bay 70 to 77mm adapters are readily available; attached is a photo showing that adapter coupling a 77mm filter to the Bay 70 mount on a 50mm. Vignetting does not seem to be an issue, but it's difficult to fit a lens shade.

The 40mm presented a more difficult problem. 93mm polarizers are expensive.
The earlier suggestion was to use an 86mm to 95mm adapter so more common (i.e. less expensive polarizers) could be fitted. This set-up does not
permit use of the supplied lens hood. This hood has a 93mm thread, and I wanted to use the hood. It was a challenge to source a 93mm to 95mm adapter, but they are available. The set-up does not appear to vignette.
