Phocus 1.2.1 - problem

BlueLemon

Member
Yesterday was a good day - I bought a H3D2-39 with the 28HCD + 80HC lenses.

But eager to get along, I am stopped by Phocus which i downloaded from Hasselblad site today.

When i start the application I see the userinterface and grey circular H-logo.....and then it stalls....

Have a Dual Core E6600, 4 gig ram, Matrox Parhelia AVPe 128 mb (pci express).... Intel Raid 0 at 300 mb/s

Anyone who has the same annoying problem ??

Changed Display driver - check

Well I assumed it was a driver specific problem, so I installed a unified driver for the Matrox Parhelia APVe 128 - and now I enter Phocus 1.2.1

But still .... problems

When importing the Hasselblad Raw files, and the pictures turn up as thumbs - the big preview window is totally white ????? Silly bug or just me

Well I must say that this software situation with Hasselblad Phocus is NOT what I expected at all. I come from Phase One back and Capture One 4 Pro - and things just work..... and keep on working

When buying a digital camera this expensive, you as a buyer should be able to demand intuitive working software.... even for PC-users....

HASSELBLAD .... are you there, cause this is surely not worth risking your reputation for.....work it out....we need software that just works !!!!!!

yippie,

finally i am not the only one!!!!!

blue lemon you problably have multi video cards???? let me know your progress and i am going to let you know mine..i have the same problem..

i have been trying to fix this with paul clauson...paul, if your viewing...its just not me...

best of luck

To Hasselblad CEO

Well I am soo annoyed that this software is a show-stopper for me.

As told, i have the Phase One P25 and Capture One 4 Pro - and it´s just working. I was tempted and bougth the H3D2-39 and paid a gazillion for it - and What ???? This Phocus software just isn´t ready to distribute.

If Hasselblad does not come up with a solution for me, I am going back to Phase One, maybe also on the camera side.

I have been searching through the net, and it seems that A LOT of customers - professional photographers mostly, are left behind by Hasselblad.

Well - turn it around Hasselblad - make it work, or pay up..... you can buy my camera back...... Yuk

No response from support either..... also here Phase One has the lead....

Dissapointed ? Very !

Matrox Parhelia APVe

//Lemonlib

I have a PCIexpress version of Matrox Parhelia APVe with 128 mb ram

I cost me a fortune, but as I do have the need for precise colors, I chose this one instead of these gamer-cards.

It has 2 LaCie 20" PhotonVision II monitors attached to it.

i totally agree with you that the engineers should have worked out the bugs ..its really annoying ...when that screen turns white....

so far no answere...

Dialogue with Hasselblad now - hope they have a solution

- And I borrow an Nvidia 9500 GT to try if its the Matrox causing problems

well it happened to two computers..one here at my studio and one at the camera store...both computers had two video cards...i have dual 8800gt nvidia on my mac..any movement on the sliders in phocuse would cause the screen to go white.. the one in the camera store seemed to have been fixed by the newer version of phocus 1.2.1.1.. however, there are still two people i know that seem to have the same problem we do...According to hassy i was the only one with this problem...well now..i am really happy am not alone in this matter......the newer version kinda corrected that somewhat...slider will now work but only on the orginal size...if you go to another screen or enlarging the shot.... for viewing forget it ..its white again...

hassy is claiming that the hvae a better color engine than adobe...well i figure..at least adobe dont turn white on me...

2cents and frustrated..

I hope Eamon Gallagher will return to me with the solution - and if he does, I will post here as soon as I have a working system.

Well a camera system this expensive, you should be followed by software that just works....

I have had this for 2 days - and already thinking bad thoughts about me shifting digital back brand to Hasselblad - due to software :-(

Are you kiddin me - this is unbelieveable

I am sorry to read both of you have serious problems.
This should not happen with professional software.
And if it does it should be corrected within a couple of days.

This is dragging along much too long.

And i never use Phocus because simply i bought my MacBook Pro more than a year and it is full of files and crap on Tiger and i have never any plan to upgrade to Leopard, so that means i will never use Phocus until i upgrade, really very bad that they didn't start wit Windows XP, but i never use it for my photography as it is really slow computer and bad monitor, so it is weird that my Phocus is working on my PC and not working on my Mac.

In all cases, i am happy to use FlexColor and convert any RAW to DNG then coming the most powerful software "Photoshop CS3 or CS4" for editing and couldn't be happy, but i really looking for that time Hasselblad can produce a version of Phocus for Mac OS X 10.4 or i buy another Mac with Leopard or newer.

I am dreaming to buy Phase one Digital Back but P65+ or above, i am very happy with my H3DII-39 and the results are really unbelievable, but i really want to have Phase one as well, and not sure if i will go with H3DII-60 if i can afford it.

Problem solved

Eamon got back with me an stated that it surely was the lack of memory on my expensive Matrox card

I then installed a Nvidia 9500 GT with 1024 mb ram onboard - and now I have a picture in the "Viewer" - looks like shit, but its there.

hmmmm....

Seems like Nvidia will push Matrox over the edge - me fearing that these gamer GPU will not render precise colors.... but what can I do ?

I apologise to Hasselblad for pointing in the wrong direction.Sorry for that.

What stays is the time it took to find the cause and solution for this problem.
It shows again how important a good supplier of hardware is for post production of images.
This would not have happened with the correct Mac or Windows operated machine.

I think that there is no need to excuse to Hasselblad - if you google what this software is causing of trouble, it would seems that this software is nowhere near as finished as the Capture One Pro from Phase One.

A lot of people is stuck.... stuck by software.... having very expensive investments not producing. If it was Raw files were open towards other programs, I would not hesitate - but only Phocus handles the Raw files ..... so there.... this software JUST have to work.....else you cannot sell a pro-camera this value - simply you don´t have a product to sell, before software is working.

Maybe I´m harsh, but this is not exactly a nikon D50 or Canon 350D - this is some of the most wanted and sought for equipment - then software should be paid more attention at Hasselblad....as simple as that.

So no "sorry Hasselblad" from me - i have been a Hasselblad user for many years, and will continue that, but paying the price, I have high demands and expectations.... so no sorries from me

Professional: That is very interesting. I didn't know that you could open FR3 files directly in ACR 5.3 until I read your post. But, is the FR3 a "complete" file? I do remember reading that the FR3 file is further processed in Phocus and enhanced to produce the complete FFF file. Will that also be the case in ACR? If not, then will something undoubtedly be missing?..not a good option. Just asking.

Regards
David

Later: After running a few tests, I have found that opening an FR3 file directly in ACR gives a quite noisy file compared with normal processing through Phocus. I think that I will be sticking with Phocus for pre-processing

I didn't use Phocus to compare it with ACR, but i can't open 3FR now with Phocus, so my only choices are FlexColor and ACR, and both doing great for me, and i think yes, yu got cleaner 3FR files on Phocus because they are processed, i saw nightshots taken at ISO200 cleaner than my nightshots taken by ISO100, the only difference was that i saw those ISO200 on Phocus [FFF] and i saw mine on FlexColor and Photoshop [3FR to DNG and/or TIFF].

I set up the phocus given on CD with the cfv-39 on my PC. It seams to work but when I put pictures in the viewer, I get only a white pictures.
If I work them like a blind man it seams to works (I get jpg files). Of cours imposible to ajust corectly with this "bug".

Perhaps I made a mistake ?

If you are seeing a white screen in the main viewer this is typically related to insufficient video ram and NOT a bug in Phocus.
What are the specifications of your video card?

Thanks. I think you are right.
My notbook is an old (2 years) first price Dell. I was surprised how long I can use it and put soft for Leica M8, Hasselblad DSC Canon and probably other I forgot. BTW it take a very long time to process fr3 files.

I was surprised how fast and well the soft for the 16Mpix digital back works on it.
I supose that the new 2.0 .x phocus will need more video ram ?
